The 1st generation of Camaro introduced in the late 60's proved to
be very popular in the market and are still collectable today. They
were designed to keep up with the muscle car era and compete with
the Mustang. The top trim level was the SS and for both 1967 and
1969 they were celebrated by being chosen to be the official Indy
500 Pace Car. Only 2 officially participated on the track and were
driven by 1960 Indy 500 winner, Jim Rathmann. Chevrolet donated the
official cars and an additional replica with AC/Power Top to the
winner of that years race. They also provided a fleet of support
vehicles which consisted of an additional 130 pace car replicas, 16
Impala station wagons, 18 pickups, two Suburbans, and one van. They
then went on to announce the Z11 code option that was going to be
offered up to the general public. In the end a total of 3,675 cars
were created. This makes them quite a rare option and it is unknown
how many are still in existence. This very clean Z11 Pace Car has
been fully restored and continued to be well maintained since
completed. It comes with a large stack of receipts documenting
everything that has been done to it since the current owner
purchased it in 2012. Chevrolet wanted to make the cars stand out
on the track so all were ordered with Dover White paint with Hugger
Orange racing stripes. The paint on the car is very clean with no
notable chips or scratches. It doesn't currently wear the Pace Car
door decals so that leaves that option open for the next owner. It
does have the thin Orange pinstripes around the wheel openings.
This is all paired with a manual White convertible top that
raises/lowers easily. It has an Orange boot to put in place when
down and also comes with a storage bag to keep it safe when not on
the car. The glass is in great condition throughout with no issues.
The car has the very cool hideaway headlights which operate
correctly. The cowl hood was a new option this year and give it a
great side profile appearance. The car has a really nice exterior
and rides on the correct Rally wheels with White lettered Firestone
Firehawk Indy 500 tires.
The car was originally ordered with the base drivetrain that
consisted of the 350 V8 motor with a 3 speed manual transmission.
The owner later swapped out the transmission for a 4 speed due to
the desire for a floor shift with console. They did however save
the transmission so it comes with the car along with some other
components like the original intake and valve covers. If anything
was ever done to improve the drivetrain or repair something the
original parts were retained. The engine compartment all looks good
and it even has accents like an original Delco cover for the
battery to give it a factory look. The car runs well, shifts well,
and doesn't smoke. It starts right up and has plenty of power. It
was ordered with Power Steering and Power Brakes which are all
working well. Underneath the car is all solid and the floors are
all good.

Z11 - Indy Pace Car
The interior is the correct 720 Orange Houndstooth interior
designed to match the stripes. The upholstery is in excellent
condition throughout and looks fresh. It has the dual bucket seats
with headrests that sit to each side of an original console with
Hurst shifter. The interior has a very stock look except for the
column which was changed out when it was converted to the 4 speed
on the floor. All of the original style gauges are in place
including the console mounted gauges. The trunk has the correct
matting and looking underneath it the pan is very solid. It houses
an original spare with cover and the original jack equipment in a
storage bag.
This is a great looking example of an original Pace Car and
honestly based on condition looks like the restoration was just
finished yesterday. There is a limited number of these collector
special ordered cars so here is a chance to get one that needs
nothing and is ready to go. In addition to a lot of original parts
it will also come with a car cover, receipts, original owners
manual, and other repair manuals.
Based on others for sale this one is offered up at a very
reasonable $72,500.00!
