After the famous Dino 206 and 246 came the Ferrari 308 GTB and GTS. Available as either a Berlinetta or a Targa top car, respectively, the 308 shared a lot of mechanical underpinnings with the Dino and was also designed by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti. The biggest upgrade came under the hood, as Ferrari gave the 308 the 2.9 L Tipo F106 V8 engine, instead of a V6 like the Dino, and a five-speed manual transmission. In 1980, both models received Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection leading to the 308 GTBi and GTSi.

Another upgrade came two years later in 1982 when Ferrari gave the car four valves per cylinder, called it the quattrovalvole, and pushed power output to 240 hp through the same five-speed manual transmission. Exterior changes included a louvered panel in the front for radiator exhaust air, power-operated mirrors, a redesigned radiator grille with rectangular driving lights on each side, and rectangular side markers. The interior received a new, satin black three-spoke steering wheel, and optional cloth seat inserts. The new quattrovalvole model carried over the  Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and Magneti Marelli Digiplex electronic ignition. All US models were equipped with catalytic converters to meet emissions regulations. Between 1982 and 1985, the quattrovalvole model saw 3042 GTS Targa top examples produced but only 748 GTB Berlinetta examples.

This particular example, Chassis # ZFFUA13A1E0050715, is a 1984 GTS Targa top quatrovalvole. It came from the factory with a Nero paint job and a contrasting tan leather interior.

The CarFax history report starts in February of 1994 when the car had 20,430 miles on the odometer. The service records on file also start around this time, largely from MotorCars International in Springfield, MO. Several took place in July of 2000 with one notable service including dying the seats, console, and both side door panels. In September of that same year, it returned for a 30,000-mile service which included timing belts, seals, filters, and the water pump.

In June of 2005, the Ferrari joined the inventory of Youngblood Auto Group in Springfield, MO and in November of that year, it received a new fender emblem from MotorCars International. In January of 2006, a new cam belt was installed along with its tensioner and idler bearing as well as an alternator belt and air conditioning belt. In April, Specialty Motorwerkes in Dayton, OH, treated the car to a new distributor cap, rotor, and gasket. In November of 2006, new mirror caps were installed from Maranello Auto Parts in Tucker, GA.

Things changed in July of 2007, when the Ferrari was bought by someone in Rochester, MI who went on to own the car until it was consigned to us in 2023. In February of 2013, it received another major service at All Ferrari Parts in Westerville, OH that included timing belt and bearing, cam cover gasket and seals, water pump seal, filters, and distributor cap gasket. In May of that same year, T. Rutlands provided new radiator hoses, a lower radiator water pipe, and an OEM trunk cover. In February of 2014, two new window accelerator modules were sourced from Ricambi America in Winston Salem, NC along with an entire fusebox from Birdman’s 308 Parts in North Reading, MA. The latest service on record, sourced with parts from Ricambi America in April of 2020, echoes the major service performed in 2013 with a new timing belt and bearing, cam cover gasket and seals, water pump seal, filters, and distributor cap gasket. It was performed by the owner less than 100 miles ago.

As it sits, this is a very clean 308 with few blemishes and less than 35,000 miles on the odometer. Thanks to the recently performed major service, this Italian stallion should provide its future owner with plenty of 80s action movie-style, high-speed motoring. Your local chapter of the Ferrari Club of America is sure to welcome you with open arms as well. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive the original toolkit, jack, spare tire, owner’s manuals & booklets, and all of the service records on file.
