Vehicle Description
1979 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
The vision for the Cadillac is based on precision engineering and
the complete luxury experience. This is the reason why Cadillac is
one of the finest cars ever manufactured in the United States. This
tradition will carry on throughout its manufacturing history, and
to this day Cadillac still remains to be America's finest luxury
vehicles. Ford's vision of precision manufacturing led to the
ultimate reliability of his vehicles. Therefore, Cadillac's
reputation preceded itself as the better-made automobile compared
to its competitors.
For consignment an original 1979 Cadillac Coupe DeVille straight
out of 1979. This car has been in the same family since that
initial purchase and in the hands of our consigner since 1989. The
engine is original and has never been in need of any repair. The
car has always been garaged, and frequent oil changes were the
norm. It has new brakes and wheel cylinders as well as drums and
has passed a recent inspection. Cue the stairway descent!
Exterior
Cotillion White paint covers the original body work which consists
of straight large steel slabs, complete with some nice bite-work
trimmings on rockers, trim spears, and window surrounds. There is
also beautiful Cadillac script style badging and several crest ivy
adornments. The bodywork is mostly rust free with just a small spot
of invasive rust forming on the passenger's front wheel well lower.
A few scratches are noted throughout as well. The front of the car
lets this know you've arrived with a large and in charge chromed
egg crate outward V grille with a dividing front bumper, and
rectangular design dual headlights. Big panels adorn and make up
this car and they are all straight and true with well minded gaps.
The rear has the iconic vertical bezel chrome tail lights which
flank a massive trunk lid, and more chrome is on for the nice lower
rear bumper. Another V and a Cadillac crest are on the middle of
the lid and some accenting pin striping is noted on the edge. Throw
on an opera window on the B pillars and wrap it with padded
Cotillion White vinyl to create the landau roof, and we now add
even more class to this wonderful cruiser. Some medium thick white
sidewalls adorn chromed wire wheel covers and some shiny mud flaps
are on each corner and we have arrived!
Interior
Recliner like red leather tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters
on the large split back bench full front seat allow for plenty of
room for front passengers. These seats have aged gracefully and
show slight thinning of the leather as well as some fold typical
with moderate use. An armrest in shiny red leather is in the center
of the buckets and can be raised or lowered, and with power
movements for the front seats lets you get it just right baby bear.
A red leather big rear bench stretches from panel to panel and also
sports another central fold down shiny vinyl armrest and center
divider. Red tuck and roll leather door panel uppers play with some
burl applique framing and use some brushed aluminum for the power
toggles, seat adjustments and mirror adjustments within the
armrest. Red thick pile carpet panels are on the bottoms of the
doors as well as on all floors presenting as very clean. A square
and rectangle design dash in red molded vinyl and wood applique
shows as original as does the padded steering wheel insert and red
plastic and wood rim steering wheel. Plenty of controls to play
with like climate control, and an AM/FM/Cassette radio are on for
your enjoyment and on the dash top there are a few digital gauges
in the center near the windscreen. A large burl applique glove box
sits in front of the passenger. A fuzzy broadcloth headliner is
above and presents with a few dimples throughout.
Drivetrain
All 425 cubic inches rest comfortably within this unrestored engine
bay. The engine is the factory correct example and has a 4-barrel
carburetor feeding it. On back resides the original TH400 3-speed
automatic transmission and the overall visual condition of the
engine bay can be described as original and unrestored, with patina
and some rust noted on the master cylinder. A 10 bolt rear resides
on the back to whisk your down the highway with ease.
Undercarriage
Plenty of undercoating is seen one the frame and suspension parts,
as well as the rockers. The floor pans remain rust free and the
frame appears still structurally sound. Some invasive rust is in
the rear panels aft of the wheel wells and on the back lower of the
passengers wheel well. Independent coil springs are on front and a
4 link with coil springs are on back. The car has all power brakes
discs for the front and power drums for the back.
Drive-Ability
The engine started up quick with little struggle, and off to our
test track, where this car performed to our standards with good
acceleration which was smooth. The automatic transmission worked
nicely, and brakes brought the car to a quick stop. I found that
the AC did not turn on and the heater blower did not work. Also,
the driver's power seat adjuster is also not working.
Save for some undercarriage rust, this car is a very nice example
of the 1979 version of the Coupe DeVille. White on white for the
exterior with a snappy red leather and burl interior, you are in
the lap of luxury right out of 1979. Buy it and you'll have a
really great skate to cruise the neighborhood or take on a vacation
to Boca!
