For Sale: 1939 Chevrolet Master in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1939 Chevrolet Master Coupe

With its wind-swept design and classic good looks, the Chevrolet coupe series has always been a rare and highly desirable line of cars. Not surprisingly, gear heads, customizers and all but 80 years' worth of dedicated fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding's greatest cultural icons.

Racing into our Hallowed Halls and for consignment, this custom built, a 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe street rod is truly masterful in every way. A very well-built piece in the grand old-school tradition, it maintains a stock appearance with just the right exterior touches to suggest there is more at work here than meets the eye, and it does not disappoint. All steel and a 350ci V8 how can you go wrong?

Exterior
This Chevy's rounded sheet metal was expertly prepared for the car's highly polished orange base coat , then clear coat finish, which is highlighted with all sparse chrome and brightwork. The curved V styled horizontal ribbed front grille is flanked by large fender mounted bullet style headlights and is very representative of the design of this car. In these prewar years, fenders were still king with the running board attaching them, but they were beginning to integrate into the body shell especially on the back. The roofline is nicely rounded and glass is lightly tinted. Open cowl sides are just below a fiberglass hood with a scoop peeking out of the top, the original steel hood is also painted and comes with a car but has no opening for the scoop. On the rear we see 2 long thin horizontal teardrops which are frenched into the smooth rounded over pontoon-esque rear fenders. A shiny curved bumper frames the bottom and just below chromed flared exhaust tips are looking upward slightly from under the rear roll pan. Beautiful 14- inch chrome American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are in front, and larger 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels are on back. The front wheels are wrapped by 195/70R14 front tires and the rear wheels are wrapped by 235/70R15's. From its scooped hood behind the V styled shiny grille to the snazzy chrome tips on the rear this car is a shining example of the 39 bowtie Master hot rod coupe.

Interior
A newer car donated the bucket seats and these are showing nicely in bone tinted leather with some buttoned panels in the inserts, high backs and headrests. On the outer sides of these chairs are custom door panels also making use of the bone tinted buttoned leather. The original cranks and knobs are within this leather field. In back is a carpeted storage area stretching from side to side. Fronting what is a warm wood burl lacquered custom dash, is an orange tilt column topped with a rally style wood rimmed steering wheel. This turns the front wheels with power steering. Behind the wheel is an orange painted steel dash top. The dash front has a beautiful slab of lacquered burl which is loaded with warm cream face vintage looking gauges with brass bezels stretching entirely across the dash. Vents are in the burl as well and an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio is residing here too. On to the floors, which have very nice medium green carpeting. The headliner in white cloth with stitched panels. Heads up!

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci V8. It has dual Edelbrock 4-barrel carbs and a supercharger so there is plenty of power. On the back is a TH400 3-speed automatic using power rearward to a 10 bolt rear axle. Headers and a glass pack style exhaust are on. This mill is highly polished and has nice matching orange wiring for some added interest all inserted into a black engine bay. We note a polished AC compressor is bolted to the mill but there are no lines, evaporator or other supporting components.

Undercarriage
Looking underneath, we see an absolute and total restoration with jet black suspension, black undercoated steel for the floor pans and rockers, and an orange painted driveshaft and rear axle. A nice job under here with independent coil springs providing the front end suspension, and new leaf spring rear suspension are seen as well as 4-wheel power disc brakes for a quick stop.

Drive-Ability
Just a pleasure to drive as it started immediately, and ran like it was going out of style. This car steers smoothly, shifts easily, and gives me a big car ride feel, even though all the while I'm inside a 2 door. The AC is not working as the compressor is not hooked up as mentioned earlier.

As close to hot rodding nirvana as we dare go, this Master coupe is truly standing by its name, masterfully restored, and deluxe in its fit, finish and power...Master Deluxe with a smile he says. Orange ya glad you read this?!
