Vehicle Description
This 1951 Buick Model 56 Super Sedanet is a rare example of the
"Jetback" coupe. These gracefully styled vehicles incorporate side
chrome Sweepspear body molding and the iconic VentiPort round
fender vents, accentuating the sophisticated exterior design. The
Buick Super is powered by an in-line 263 cubic inch OHV 8-cylinder
engine producing 124 horsepower. The Dynaflow automatic
transmission, essentially a one speed automatic with a variable
torque converter, operates smoother than other automatics of the
early 1950s. Front and rear suspension for these Buick models use
coil springs, and drive smoothly on the road. Power-assisted
four-wheel drum brakes provide suitable stopping power and steering
is manual, but easy to operate.
The exterior of this Super Sedanet is finished in Victoria Maroon
over gray cloth in good condition. Chrome bumpers and body trim are
excellent, with only minor pitting on the driver's spotlight. An
intact hood ornament, factory steel wheels with full wheel covers,
and whitewall tires complete the original appearance of this
elegant early 50s automobile. The braking system of this Buick has
received recent servicing, along with new operating fluids and a
thorough detailing.
A very pleasant-driving example, this 51 Buick Super would serve as
a delightful entry to vintage American motoring.
