Description:
This 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado is a blue-over-black example that is
powered by a 425ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic
transaxle. Additional equipment includes front-wheel-drive, 15"
wheels, power steering and brakes, a power-adjustable front seat,
air conditioning, and power windows. The car was repainted under
prior ownership.
Interior:
The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery, and bright metal
trim accents the dash and door panels. The car is equipped with a
power-adjustable front seat as well as power windows. The air
conditioning was converted to use R134a refrigerant, but the system
is inoperable. The cruise control is inoperative, the push-button
AM radio powers on but does not receive a signal, and the power
antenna does not extend to its full height. A patched area on the
driver's seat cushion can be viewed in the gallery along with wear
on the carpets, blemishes on the front seat backs, and rust in the
door jambs. Instrumentation consists of a 130-mph barrel-style
speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant
temperature, oil pressure, and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer
shows 50k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
Exterior:
The Toronado debuted for the 1966 model year and was the first GM
product to offer front-wheel-drive. This example was finished from
the factory in Lucerne Mist and received a repaint in blue with
silver pinstriping under prior ownership. Exterior features include
chrome bumpers, dual exhaust outlets, bright door guards, and
aftermarket side mirrors. The pop-up headlights have been converted
to operate utilizing an electric motor, and the left-side unit is
inoperative. Rust, bubbling paint, and flaws around the car are
shown up-close in the gallery.
Drivetrain:
The 425ci Rocket V8 was equipped at the factory with a single
four-barrel carburetor. Power is sent to the front wheels through a
three-speed automatic transaxle. Corrosion is visible on underbody
components, additional images of which can be viewed in the
gallery. Chrome-finished 15? steel wheels are mounted with 235/75
Suretrac Power Touring whitewall tires. Power steering and
power-assisted drum brakes were fitted as standard equipment.
