Vehicle Description
1993 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
On July 2 in 1992, a White 1992 Corvette Convertible rolled off the
assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky and into the history books
as it became the one-millionth Corvette to be built. The special
milestone Corvette was paired with a 1953 Corvette and the two cars
would go on tour as the car was used to promote the upcoming 40th
Anniversary in 1993. This production of the One Millionth Corvette
was a big milestone for the model and Chevrolet pulled out all the
stops to make it a big deal. The Corvette had even been signed by
every employee at the plant as it went down the line. And when it
came time, the car broke through a banner reading "1,000,000th
Corvette" while those in attendance applauded. In the background, a
marching band played "Born in the USA". Former Corvette Chief
Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov was on hand and even rode in the car as
it was driven through the plant. Zora joined then Corvette Chief
Engineer Dave McLellan and Chevrolet president Jim Perkins, along
with BGAP manager Paul Schnoes and UAW Local 2164 President Billy
Jackson for the milestone celebration.
For consignment, one in a million with this crisp clean white
Corvette convertible. This 5.7 liter LT-1 is capable of producing
300hp, handles like it's on rails and is loaded with creature
comforts. It's a convertible for top down fun in the sun driving.
White leather is for the interior which has plenty of technology of
the day to keep tabs on all aspects of the internal workings on the
fly. Oh, and I surely cannot forget the title verified 21,973
actual miles on the odometer that our consignorhas added very
little to during his 27 years of garage kept ownership.
Exterior
Clean Arctic White covers all the fiberglass, which remains in
showroom condition with only a few small imperfections that one
must look very hard to find. A clamshell hood, hidden headlights
thatrotate up at the turn of a dial, and white canvas convertible
top are just the basics. Further investigation reveals body
matching integrated bumpers front and rear, and aerodynamic
straight fiberglass panels with well minded gaps throughout. Simple
badging, and round-ish inset tail lights with dual horizontal
blacked out tip exhaust are seen on the rear of the car. 17-inch
shiny turbine style wheels wrapped in nicely preserved staggered
width radials adorn each corner.
Interior
The dream continues with white leather covered high back buckets
that have enough horizontal tuck and roll tufting to be the new
Michelin man. Only very slight wrinkling of the hides is noted in
this operating room clean environment. While being grabbed by this
leather, use the side and console controls to electronically put
you exactly where you want to grab the wheel, shifter, and press
the accelerator to start your drive to hyperdrive speed. A smooth
black center console races forward to the black dash, and houses
some storage, seat controls, and the shift lever. Moving up into
the center of the dash is an AM/FM/Cassette/CD orange readout
radio, temp and airflow controls, all push button. This panel makes
a sharp left in an upward curve passing the large info screen with
various warning lights etc within and melts into the analog cascade
of orange numbered and lettered gauges, which huddle around a
central vertical rectangular orange LED readout for speed, and
mileage. Nice clean black carpet covers the floors and storage area
and shows no fading overall. 2-tone black and white wrapped door
panels round out our tour and like the rest of the interior are
cleaner that you can ever imagine.
Drivetrain
An LT1 5.7L V8 300hp small block mill featuring fuel injection is
nestled with a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission strapped on the
back. The engine bay is nice and very clean and highly detailed
looking showroom, with no corrosion on any aluminum parts, or
fading of plastic. An economical 2.59 geared limited slip rear axle
is on in the back, not that you care about fuel mileage when
driving this rocketship.
Undercarriage
Looking underneath, we can see no rust, slight patina, and slight
fading with factory overspray still on the floor pans. A solid
construction with an X frame reinforcement for some extra stiffness
to carve those curves is noted. Independent SLA and transverse leaf
springs suspension is on for the front, and a 5 link transverse
leaf spring rear suspension is seen as are 4 wheel power disc
brakes all around. Plenty of lightweight materials have been
utilized for this suspension and underside mechanicals, all for
more power from that LT1 upfront.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and hopping inside those overstuffed leather seats
just grab you. After achieving perfect driving position, it was off
to the test track where she performed just beautifully, with
rocket-like acceleration, handling on rails, and quick stopping.
Steering was tight and it provided a smooth ride at cruising speed
and I had to stop myself from taking extra laps as to preserve the
low low miles.
