For Sale: 1953 Pontiac Chieftain in Rogers, Minnesota

Vehicle Description

This 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Convertible is a beautifully restored, 50s convertible with great options and an eye-catching look! In 1953, after nearly a decade of growth and high demand, the American automotive market began to plateau which had America's automakers jockeying for customers. For the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors, major new style changes were introduced in 1953 in an attempt to lure new buyers to the Pontiac marque. At the time, Pontiac had a single line, the Chieftain, divided into two sub-series, the Six and the Eight, which signified either a 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder engine. Pontiac began production of its completely redesigned 1953 models on November 17, 1952 and introduced them to the public on December 6, 1952. From nearly every angle, the 1953 Chieftains took on a brand new look. Changes to the front end included a new single-piece wraparound windshield, redesigned grille and headlight design, and a brand new "Indian Head" hood ornament that lit up. The side profile was also modified in '53 to include more accentuated stepped-up rear quarter panels along with new look gravel guards. The rear end treatment was also updated in 1953 with a more contoured deckline and the addition of backup lights that were integrated into the decklid. On the insides, the '53 Pontiacs had a new-look "Panorama View" instrument cluster and "Key-Quick" automatic ignition starter, among other items. With all of these modern updates, Pontiac's wager was successful and it was able to retain its fifth place ranking among America's auto manufacturers in 1953. Under the hood on this '53 Pontiac Convertible is a 268.4 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 8 engine paired with a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 122 horsepower when new. The 268 Straight 8 is backed by a Hydra-Matic Automatic transmission that makes this Chieftain an easy car for just about anybody to drive. This 1953 Pontiac comes equipped with some great options! Power steering is always a great add-on to any early 50s car since it makes squeezing into a tight parking space a the local car show or drive-in much easier. The light beige power convertible top is in wonderful condition as well and it goes up and down effortlessly with the simple flick of a switch. Another tasteful update is the driver's side chrome mirror and auxiliary spotlight that further assist in providing additional visibility when needed. The front bumper is also adorned with a pair of amber-lens fog lamps along with front bumper guardettes. Likewise, the rear bumper is topped with a large chrome bumper guard as well. Capping off the unique 50s features of this Pontiac is the "Indian Head" hood ornament that even lights up! Riding on a set of recently replaced Wide Whitewall Radial tires on painted steel wheels with full Pontiac wheelcovers, this '53 Chieftain Convertible has a great look and even better ride. The exterior of this 1953 Pontiac has been correctly refinished in a beautiful Linden Green paint scheme that completes the exterior look of the car. The interior on this '53 Pontiac Chieftain Convertible is gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in two-tone White and Green leather that complements the car's appearance. The matching green carpeting, upholstered door panels, color-matched painted dash, and steering wheel are all in great shape as well and appear to be in their stock configuration. The instrument cluster is outfitted with a 100 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is finished with a locking glovebox, clock, and push-button AM radio. Whether you're adding to an existing Pontiac collection or you're buying your very first classic car, this 1953 Pontiac Chieftain would make an excellent addition.
