Description:
This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette was refurbished under prior ownership
and acquired us in July 2023. Subsequent work consisted of honing
the valve guides, performing a valve job, resurfacing the cylinder
heads, installing a PerTronix Ignitor and Flame-Thrower ignition
coil, and replacing the head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets,
valve cover gaskets, and exhaust manifold gaskets. Power is
provided by a fuel-injected 283ci V8 paired with a four-speed
manual transmission and the car is finished in red with white coves
over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a white soft top,
15? steel wheels, whitewall tires, simulated knock-off wheel
covers, split chrome bumpers, and a digital cassette stereo.
Interior:
The black vinyl seats are faired into the rear bodywork and
complemented by a color-coordinated dash pad, carpets, and door
panels. Interior elements include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a
digital cassette stereo, and rubber floor mats. The analog clock
does not work. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph
speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,600-rpm redline as well as
gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel
level. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles.
Exterior:
The fiberglass body has been repainted in its current combination
of red with white coves. Details include a white soft top, quad
headlights and taillights, split chrome bumpers, and a driver-side
mirror.
Drivetrain:
The 283ci V8 features a Rochester mechanical fuel-injection system,
a high-lift camshaft, and Corvette-script valve covers. Work under
current ownership consisted of honing the valve guides, performing
a valve job, resurfacing the cylinder heads, installing a PerTronix
Ignitor and Flame-Thrower ignition coil, and replacing the head
gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and exhaust
manifold gaskets. The stamping on the engine pad is shown in the
gallery. The CS suffix is consistent with a 283ci V8 rated at 315
horsepower and designated for a 1961 Corvette with Rochester
mechanical fuel injection, a high-lift camshaft, and a manual
transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed
manual transmission. Steel 15? wheels feature simulated knock-off
covers and are mounted with Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall
tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.
