restored Fiat 500 Lusso semi-convertible. The Fiat has been
tastefully upgraded with a rebuilt 594CC Fiat 126 engine and a
rebuilt synchronized 4 speed manual transmission. The added power
and synchronizers make this purpose-built city car a pleasure to
drive. We really think these old Cinquecentos need a fun loud color
to fit with their bubbly personality. And Yellow does just the
trick!Highlights:Full RestorationRebuilt Upgraded EngineRebuilt 4
speed Synchronized TransmissionOur Fiat 500 had a full tear down
respray in Fiat Yellow during the previous restoration. The black
vinyl interior was replaced including the folding top. Restoration
work was performed by Storicar SRL in Poncarale BS, Italy. A
well-regarded Italian car restoration with over 30 years'
experience. The paint, chrome, and metal work all show nicely. Car
Cave installed the rebuilt engine and transmission once the Fiat
was imported to the US.In the rear with the gear is an upgraded 594
cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine, similar to those used in the
standard Fiat 600 and Fiat 126 models. Located behind the rear
axle, the vertical-twin engine is paired with a four-speed manual
gearbox. Despite its small size, the engine is surprisingly lively,
powering the 500 through the corners. The old Fiats aren't big on
features featuring hi/low beams, crank windows, and wipers. The
front frunk features plenty of storage space with a fuel tank,
spare tire, and jack. But what the Fiat lacks in features; it makes
up for in fun! The car's rounded roofline features a canvas
foldable top, allowing ample ventilation and scenic views of the
skies above. Its 12-inch gray steel wheels are fitted with
145/70R12 tires, all boasting substantial tread. Truly, an
abundance of features! From a mechanical perspective, it features an
upgraded 594cc two-cylinder engine that produces a roaring 24
horsepower. Its top speed hovers around 60mph (although recently
was clocked at 63mph on GPS!), and it can achieve sub 20 second
0-60 mph acceleration, but you might need a downhill slope and a
strong tailwind. The coachwork is in excellent condition with
glossy and attractive paint. The brightwork, including the bumpers
and chrome cockpit rails shine along with color-coordinated
period-correct steel wheels come with dog-dish hubcaps that give
the car the right stance and look on the road. Originally conceived
as the 'people's car,' the Fiat 500 was meticulously designed to
offer an affordable and accessible option for everybody. The design
prioritized cost-effective production and economical operation,
opening the door to a broader demographic of consumers. The classic
Fiat 500 enjoyed a remarkable 18-year production run starting in
1957 with more than 4 million coming off the assembly line. A true
icon with staying power as one of the most successful and beloved
city cars in history.A nickname for the Fiat 500 is Cinquecento
which means five hundred in Italian. A key aspect of this cars
success was limiting the engine size to keep the car classified at
a lower tax rate. Italy is notorious for taxing larger displacement
engines. Hence why Ferrari built a 2.0-litre V8 for the Italian
market 208 GT4 in the early 70's... taxation. Stepping into the
cabin, the atmosphere exudes an inviting charm with a pair of sleek
black vertically ribbed vinyl bucket seats. Their design evokes the
70's nostalgia with a matching pair of door panels attached to
larger than expected doors. All interior upholstery remains in
impeccable condition. At the back, a spacious bench seat beckons,
generously accommodating two or perhaps even three individuals,
particularly if one happens to be of a more petite stature. Nestled
between the front seats, the essential elements come into view: the
gear shifter, start switch, choke, and parking brake, all within
easy reach. The dashboard represents an ode to simplicity, clad in
molded black vinyl with few switches or interruptions. Of course,
the Italians could not forget the center focused and mounted ash
tray. The gauge cluster is simple yet well framed by the steering
wheel. Below the limited center dash mounted switches is a
convenient open storage compartment below. This compartment awaits
your provisions?be it freshly baked focaccia, a bottle of olive
oil, or a vial of balsamic vinaigrette. The carpeting underfoot is
elegantly black, adding to the 3 unifying color combo of black,
yellow, and chrome.
