Vehicle Description
New to our showroom at Cruisin Classics is a stunning 1965
Chevrolet Malibu Super Sport. The second and third numbers of the
VIN, being "38," confirm this beautiful ride to be an actual SS
Malibu. The complete VIN decoding goes as follows
1 - Chevrolet
38 - Malibu SS 8-cylinder
37 - 2 DR Sport Coupe
5 - 1965
Z - Fremont California Plant
134608 - Sequential Production Number
This rust-free and unbelievably clean Malibu SS was built in
California and spent most of its life out west. This explains the
remarkable condition it is in today-equipped initially with a 283ci
engine with a 2-speed Powerglide transmission. The last owner
decided that because of how clean the body and frame are, this
would make the perfect donor car to create a 1965 Malibu SS Z16
tribute. The 1965 Z16 was the first big block Chevelle ever built
and powered by a 396ci engine. Chevrolet built only 201 of these
now-famous muscle cars. Before getting into the build details, we
must tell you that this is a car you need to see in person to
appreciate how detailed this car is. The car now gets its power
from a new 454 big block .30 over, a new set of aluminum heads with
2.19/1.88 valves from Skip White Performance out of Kingsport,
Tennessee, and a new Comp Cams hydraulic .550 lift roller cam. New
10.5 to 1 Forged pistons. New Edelbrock performer intake with a 750
cfm Edelbrock carb with electric choke. A new distributor, Sewart
water pump, a new aluminum radiator with dual electric fans on a
thermostat that automatically kicks on at 185 degrees, engine runs
very well with no overheating issues at all. To add a very cool
factor a new reproduction Z16 air cleaner and matching chrome valve
covers were added.
The engine bay itself is very highly detailed and shows very well.
It's also equipped with a correct 1965 big block power steering
pump with a remote reservoir. This big block beast is mated to a
completely rebuilt and thoroughly detailed Turbo 400 with a
2200-stall converter. The rear end is a 10-bolt non-posi with a 331
gear. The car has been professionally repainted in the correct
Ermine White (Paint code "CC") and is an exceptionally well-done,
high-quality repaint. The trim pieces and bright work on the car
are in excellent condition. Both the front and rear bumpers are
new. The vehicle can be seen in an episode of "Bitchin Rides" at
the upholstery shop that worked on the trim tag correct, new medium
blue ( Interior code 741) bucket seat interior. According to the
previous owner, the new interior was hand-stitched for $10,000. It
is one of the most beautiful interiors, absolutely stunning when
combined with the Ermine white exterior. Also included in the car's
interior is a period correct Sun tach and a new reproduction "SS"
wood steering wheel. The Bluetooth radio looks authentic, with
speakers under the front seats. To improve the ride and handling,
it is equipped with front upper and lower tubular control arms with
coil-over shocks, new front disc brakes, brake lines, and a new
cad-plated brake booster.
