The GTO was an option in 1965 on the LeMans, this car is a
convertible, with the 360 HP Tri-Power engine, and this car came
equipped with the standard 3 speed stick, later changed to the 4
speed, 3:55 posi rear end, Splitter exhaust extensions, Power
steering, Power brakes, wood steering wheel, instrument gauges, an
AM radio, console, vacuum gauge, deluxe retractable seat belts, and
floor mats.
Under hood is very correct in appearance of this 65 GTO. The chrome
air cleaners and valve covers are correct and in good condition,
air cleaner elements a new and look nice as well. All of the tri
power linkage is correct and operates properly. The tri power
carburetors are all freshly rebuilt and work excellent. The engine
has a more modern HEI ignition/distributor. Correct radiator with
added GTO A/C fan shroud, with the correct clutch fan and even a
new Delco Battery with the correct spring clamp battery cables. The
block is the correct WS unit cast just a few days before the car
was built, the heads are probably correct some of the early heads
did not have the 77 casting numbers, and this one doesn't. The
alternator is a later replacement unit that functions correctly.
The engine compartment overall is in very good condition.
Everything on the interior looks original except the aftermarket
radio and speakers. The Parchment interior still retains most of
its original glitter. Nice console, floor mats and carpet, the
instrument panel is in very good condition with the optional gauge
package, the factory wood wheel is in the condition expected of an
original 58,777 mile car. The optional vacuum gauge mounted on the
console is functional. The interior is a very nice original
interior, something that is getting harder to find on restored
muscle cars. The factory Hurst 4 speed shifter and classic white
shift ball are present and accounted for.
The body is all original sheet metal, with no signs of filler any
place on the body. The only area any body filler was in the tulip
panel to the tops of the quarter panels, they were originally
leaded in at the factory, probably redone when painted. The car was
repainted during its resto the correct Montero Red paint and is in
very good condition with no signs of touch up or imperfections. The
gaps on most of the car are what would be expected from a 1965
production car. The PPG clear windshield is a newer replacement,
the side glass is clear and the correct original LOF units. The
rear die cast and front grills are in excellent condition, the
front and rear bumpers both have good quality chrome. The white
convertible top is in very good condition, the convertible frame is
excellent, the rear plastic window is clear.
The sheet metal on the undercarriage is in excellent condition and
show no signs of any replacement, it has been painted black and
shows well. The frame is the correct boxed convertible frame and is
pit free and painted black as well. Everything suspension wise has
been replaced with new parts , the front sway bar is a newer
thicker bar with a GM part number sticker. The Exhaust is a dual
system with the correct 1965 chrome splitter tips. Original fuel
and brake lines, original fuel tank. The 4 speed Muncie Trans is an
updated wide ratio Muncie that has a new clutch, pressure plate,
rear main seal and input shaft seal. The 10 bolt rear end with 3:55
gears is present and in good working condition. This GTO has been
upgraded with chrome 15 X 6 Cragar SS wheels and reproduction P205
75 R15 Coker redline tires and a matching spare!
