Vehicle Description

1965 GTO Convertible | # Matching Engine | Tri Power | 4 Speed Manual | Original Sheet Metal | PHS Documented | 25 Year Pontiac Dealer Ownership

The GTO was an option in 1965 on the LeMans, this car is a convertible, with the 360 HP Tri-Power engine, and this car came equipped with the standard 3 speed stick, later changed to the 4 speed, 3:55 posi rear end, Splitter exhaust extensions, Power steering, Power brakes, wood steering wheel, instrument gauges, an AM radio, console, vacuum gauge, deluxe retractable seat belts, and floor mats.

Under hood is very correct in appearance of this 65 GTO. The chrome air cleaners and valve covers are correct and in good condition, air cleaner elements a new and look nice as well. All of the tri power linkage is correct and operates properly. The tri power carburetors are all freshly rebuilt and work excellent. The engine has a more modern HEI ignition/distributor. Correct radiator with added GTO A/C fan shroud, with the correct clutch fan and even a new Delco Battery with the correct spring clamp battery cables. The block is the correct WS unit cast just a few days before the car was built, the heads are probably correct some of the early heads did not have the 77 casting numbers, and this one doesn't. The alternator is a later replacement unit that functions correctly. The engine compartment overall is in very good condition.

Everything on the interior looks original except the aftermarket radio and speakers. The Parchment interior still retains most of its original glitter. Nice console, floor mats and carpet, the instrument panel is in very good condition with the optional gauge package, the factory wood wheel is in the condition expected of an original 58,777 mile car. The optional vacuum gauge mounted on the console is functional. The interior is a very nice original interior, something that is getting harder to find on restored muscle cars. The factory Hurst 4 speed shifter and classic white shift ball are present and accounted for.

The body is all original sheet metal, with no signs of filler any place on the body. The only area any body filler was in the tulip panel to the tops of the quarter panels, they were originally leaded in at the factory, probably redone when painted. The car was repainted during its resto the correct Montero Red paint and is in very good condition with no signs of touch up or imperfections. The gaps on most of the car are what would be expected from a 1965 production car. The PPG clear windshield is a newer replacement, the side glass is clear and the correct original LOF units. The rear die cast and front grills are in excellent condition, the front and rear bumpers both have good quality chrome. The white convertible top is in very good condition, the convertible frame is excellent, the rear plastic window is clear.

The sheet metal on the undercarriage is in excellent condition and show no signs of any replacement, it has been painted black and shows well. The frame is the correct boxed convertible frame and is pit free and painted black as well. Everything suspension wise has been replaced with new parts , the front sway bar is a newer thicker bar with a GM part number sticker. The Exhaust is a dual system with the correct 1965 chrome splitter tips. Original fuel and brake lines, original fuel tank. The 4 speed Muncie Trans is an updated wide ratio Muncie that has a new clutch, pressure plate, rear main seal and input shaft seal. The 10 bolt rear end with 3:55 gears is present and in good working condition.
