For Sale: 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Charlotte, North Carolina
Here is your chance to own a piece of NASCAR racing history that
was thought to have disappeared but is now available at RK Motors
of Charlotte, NC.
This 1997 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo was built as a
research and development (R&D) project with the intention of
being put into service and raced. Immediately after the 1997
All-Star race, NASCAR banned the winning HMS racecar of that race
known as "T-Rex."
That was the only other racecar built like this one with the same
engineering concepts such as raised floor pans, shocks placed
outside the frame rails, unique underbody aerodynamics, stiffer
chassis, and other innovative techniques.
NASCAR deemed these engineering concepts in 1997 all bundled
together as too extreme and not eligible to race. Not being able to
compete, this racecar was used as a Pit Stop Practice car to raise
funds for the Hendrick Marrow Program that was established in 1997.
After several years this racecar sat around at the Hendrick
Motorsports facility until it was acquired by an employee. In late
2017, it was acquired by Rhine Enterprises in Denver, NC. At that
time, it started to undergo a complete meticulous restoration
bringing it back to its original color and livery with completion
in 2021 for the current owner.
Since being done, this racecar was tested and tuned on only
one-track day.
Power comes from a fresh 358 c.i.d., 18-degree HMS engine with a
new Holley carburetor and approximately 700 h.p. The transmission
is a fresh Jerico 4-speed manual connected with a new driveshaft to
the rear end that has new 3.82 gears. The clutch was also replaced
during the restoration.
All the wiring has been replaced and is new. A 22-gallon fuel cell
with new bladder and components have been installed or
replaced.
Other new items include windshield, springs, duct hoses, fuel pump,
brake lines, fittings, hoses, shocks were rebuilt, ignition boxes,
belts and more.
Rhine Enterprises is a full-service specialty fabrication and
restoration shop that focuses on bringing vintage racecars back to
glory!
