For Sale: 1947 Buick Super in Rogers, Minnesota

Vehicle Description

This 1947 Buick Super Convertible is a beautifully restored convertible that is equipped with numerous desirable options! Coming out of World War II, the American automakers were coming out of a time period where auto manufacturing was stopped due to the War effort. As such, the first few years of post-war production the styling resembled the pre-war style since the American manufacturers had yet to redo their tooling and manufacturing process to accommodate new post-war styles. In other words, the immediate post-war models were essentially jazzed up versions of 1942 models. In 1947, the Buick division of General Motors offered three distinct model lines, the entry-level Series 40 Special, the top-of-the-line Roadmaster, and, what was touted as somewhat of the best of both worlds, the intermediate Series 50 Super. Sitting on a longer wheelbase than the less-expensive Specials while sporting a more economical engine of the Roadmaster, the '47 Buick Super was a smashing sales success for the GM marque. In fact, Buick had a great year in 1947 sitting in fourth place among American car manufacturers and making up 7.5% of automotive production. Despite being the second most expensive body style in its respective Series, Buick actually produced the most convertible models of any American automaker in 1947. For the reasons mentioned previously, 1947 Buick style remained similar to the 1942 and thus 1946 models. The most noticeable difference between the 1946 Buicks from the 1947 Buick models was a style change in the grille, with the '47 grille was now stamped and featured a separate upper chrome bar and new emblem. Although Buick sat below Cadillac in GM's hierarchy, the Supers came equipped with a number of high-end luxury options such as hydraulically-powered seats, windows, and convertible tops. In total, Buick produced a total of 28,297 Super Convertibles which makes this particular '47 Super Convertible a model seldom seen today. Under the side-opening hood on this '47 Buick is a 248 Cubic Inch "Fireball" Straight 8 cylinder engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 110 horsepower when new. The 248 Fireball Dynaflash Inline 8 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted via a column-mounted "three-on-the-tree" shifter. Exhaust exits via a single tailpipe capped with a chrome exhaust deflector. This Super Convertible is loaded with options! Dual outside chrome mirrors are always a welcome addition to a collector car of this vintage since they make maneuvering in and out of a tight garage stall or into a tight spot at the local car show much easier. This 1947 Super also comes with dual outside spotlights which are another novel option on a classic Buick. A pair of auxiliary driving lights further improve visibility during nighttime driving. Riding on a set of wide whitewall bias-ply tires on color-matched steel wheels capped off with chrome Buick hubcaps and beauty rings this '47 Buick Super has a fantastic look cruising down the road. The rear tires are tucked behind a set of color-matched fender skirts further adding to the iconic post-war look of this Buick. The blue cloth power convertible top is in fantastic condition and it goes up and down with the simple push or pull of a knob located under the dash. When down, the convertible top tucks neatly under a matching dark blue cloth boot. The exterior chrome and brightwork, including the optional front and rear bumper guards, are in fantastic condition and add to the upscale look of this 40s luxury automobile. The exterior has been refinished in a beautiful Cambridge Blue paint that completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this '47 Buick Super Convertible is gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in a beautiful Blue and Ivory vinyl and the front bench is easily adjusted via a power switch. The matching door panels, blue carpeting, color-matched painted dash, and steering wheel are all in fantastic condition and appear to retain a nice stock look. The driver's and passenger side windows are both powered, going up and down with the simple flick of a switch. The instrument cluster is outfitted with a 120 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The color-matched dash is finished with a Sonomatic AM radio with integrated speaker, clock, and locking glovebox. Whether you're adding to an existing collection on Buicks or you're buying your very first classic car, this 1947 Buick Super Convertible would make an excellent addition.
