Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet Impala SS Sedan
The 1994 Impala SS went into production on February 14, 1994, at
GM's plant in Arlington, TX, and was almost identical cosmetically
to the concept car, the only noticeable change being the chromed
bowtie logo on the grill vs a red logo on the concept. The car was,
in essence, a high-performance version of the Caprice heavily based
on the Caprice 9C1 police package. As such, it got much of the
equipment formerly available only to law enforcement and government
agencies. This included a sport-tuned suspension with reinforced
shocks and springs, a high-capacity reverse-flow cooling system,
four-wheel disc brakes, transmission cooler, dual exhaust, a
higher-output electrical system, and other minor mechanical and
electrical alterations. The Impala SS received body-colored trim, a
unique single-bar grille with no hood ornament, and a rear deck
spoiler. It was fitted with 17-inch brushed aluminum wheels with
17" all-season tires. Inside, the car came with a central console
with cup holders on 1994 and 1995 models and a storage compartment,
leather seats embroidered with the Impala SS logo, and a standard
leather-wrapped steering wheel. For the 1994 model year, it was
available only in black with a gray interior. Due to a shortage of
the unique five-spoke aluminum wheels, only 6,303 cars were sold.
However, the wheel shortage was remedied for the 1995 model year
and 21,434 cars were sold.
An instant classic... just add gas. We have a 38,081 title verified
mile, single family owned since new 1996 Chevrolet Impala with 350
cubes of seriously worked, boosted, and sprayed LT1 power under the
hood, snazzy 17-inch Rozzi wheels, and lots of consignor added
touches including a killer stereo system. MultipleSuper Chevy show
wins including a best in class and a Wildwood, NJ best overall win
for the 4 doors to keep it all unassuming, and an aero design
creates this suburban piece of go go driveway candy. No wonder law
enforcement ordered these by the ton! Here comes the
Popo...YIKES!
Exterior
All rounded off and aero looking and all bathed in very sinister
and very deep end of the pool black. A 4-door sedan with a kick for
the family who looks to travel in comfort, style and above all...
speed. But wait, adding to the allure are racy purple ghost flames
that lick rearward from cowl induction hood and front fenders and
the entire car has been ceramic coated to ensure the deepshiny will
last. With beautiful prancing Impala badging throughout and a
custom horizontally ribbed billet grille, all paint and trimmings
are in fine condition with well minded gaps and a small spoiler on
the trunk lid to boot. Add on some dark chrome flip flop tinted
windows and custom 1 off tinted tail lights and you'll be the belle
of the ball. To make you stand out in the crowd 17" polished Rozzi
wheels have been added and for a little extra the window sticker is
included. A shout out to the trunk which contains not only a
nitrous oxide bottle, but also the heart and soul of the killer
sound system includingtwin Eclipse amps, side mounted speakers and
a Jensen mobile video system.
Interior
If you have a penchant for things slightly modified then slide into
this interior and enjoy. Factory gray leather in clean condition
abounds on the inside. Bucket seats in well preserved condition
provide the view of what's to be seen from the canted forward
windscreen and dividing the buckets is a long smooth console with
added LCD gauges on the forward section and a nice gray padded
armrest/console lid topper toward the rear. In the back is a long
bench stretching from door to door and appears to have been sat in
little or at all. The original dash, very clean and crack free, is
in front showing the factory gauge cluster and a smooth black
panel. Aftermarket gauges occupy the driver's A-pillar and in front
of the passenger down low is a Paxton Paxta-Map Fueler. In the
center, we see the heater and A/C controls as well as a fold out
Eclipse AM/FM/CD stereo. A factory steering column fronts the dash
and has the factory leather wrapped steering wheel and airbag in
the center. The door panels remain stock with a mix of smooth gray
vinyl, gray carpet and gray plastic inserts for both the control
panel and door release, power lock, and power mirror inset.
Slightly smudged but very nicely preserved light gray carpet below,
and a perfect headliner in gray is floating above.
Drivetrain
Opening the cowl induction hood in our patented Classic Auto Mall
photo booth and we were overwhelmed with the tubing, wiring and
hoses routed throughout the engine bay. A built and worked 350ci
LT1 with an Eagle rotating assembly, Lunati camshaft, double roller
timing chain, port matched cylinder heads with all Crane valvetrain
components, and a port matched intake add up to create our
consignor stated 500+hp. A Paxton SN2000 supercharger along with a
bigger throttle body assist in creating those numbers as does a
nitrous oxide system. It is backed up by a monster built 4L60E
4-speed automatic transmission in a stock case that isequipped with
a shift kit and aftermarket torque converter. On the way back is a
10 bolt 3.73 geared Positraction rear axle. Eye candy abounds under
the hood in the form of many polished components, supple hoses, and
a MSD ignition system.
Undercarriage
Mostly LIKE NEW! Very slight surface rust but all wonderfully clean
floor pans and suspension parts. Power disc ABS brakes with an
added line lock brings this cruiser to a safe stop and independent
coil spring front suspension and a 4 link with coil springs is on
the rear to keep this antelope sure footed. Our consignor notes
that Hotchkiss 3" lowering springs have been added along with
Hotchkiss tubular rear control arms. SLP headers rain down from the
mill and connect to a 3-inch exhaust that steps down to 2.5-inch
pipes before passing through Pypes mufflers and making their exit
under the rear of the car.
Drive-Ability
A slip inside the gray leather and after a quick fire up, this car
exhibited rocket-like acceleration, great handling and can cruise
at high speeds all day without even breaking a sweat. The only
thing sweeter than the sound from the engine is the killer
stereo/video system, but I did not take the time to watch Breakfast
At Tiffany's for the 59th time.
A real cruiser and eye catcher, and a fav of the police. I still
hit the brakes when I see one of these coming. It's just a habit,
and I'm usually at least 10mph over! A highly customized engine,
mildly customized interior, and a killer stereo system all make for
a ride that can blend into traffic or stand out to any car
aficionado.
