Vehicle Description
1952 Ford F1 Pickup
In 1925 the Ford Motor Company introduced the first "pickup" based
on the Model T Runabout. Ford offered the rear "pickup box"
separately at their dealer parts department for $25.00. The box was
then bolted onto the back of the vehicle as an accessory. Since the
box was "picked up" at the parts department by the customer, the
term "pickup" took hold for this style of vehicle. Later the box
was installed at the factory and evolved into today's pickup
trucks.
For consignment, a former barn findfrom the Philadelphia area in
the form of a 1952 Ford F1 pickup truck. Starting its slumber in
the mid70's and then being treated to a body off frame restoration,
this all original metal with the exception of the bed sides and
running boards, and professionally converted to a short bed with a
partially boxed and shortened frame for extra strength comes to us
in a wonderfully purposefulpatina form. Some lowering, a snappy
interior, and upgraded conveniences as well as a new 5.3 liter LS
mill and you are good to go. Just like the old days, come on in or
hop online and make the transaction and the "pickup"! These trucks
seem to be very popular at Classic Auto Mall lately, so it is
suggested you show up sooner rather than later for your chance to
have it permanently in your collection.
Exterior
She's taking a Sheridan Blue bath and it's a nice hot one for this
patinedbut yet appealing paint job. Dents, dings, paint loss, some
light surface rust and a general patina help create the rat rad
allure on the body of this hauler. With its "phat" weathered black
painted metal grille with a horizontal pointed central bar, and a
trio of vertical "chicken legs" giving the central big bar support
and 2 single wide chrome bezel headlights, this is an iconic design
for 50's Ford trucks. A bulbous hood, with some brite work on
either side, makes its way back to a single pane windshield and
rounded cab area. New made in the good old USofA running boards
connect the front and rear rounded fenders, and create a "step
side" for side bed access. Speaking of the bed, its box is straight
as arrows thanks to new made in the USA bed sides and comes to us
with its curled over steel edging and lightly stained oak bed with
polished separators. The tail gate looks much like the original
with the Ford script type badge in the center and a straight blue
roll pan just below framing the bottom. Sheridan Blue steel painted
wheels serve as the background for the deep trim rings on their
edges, and the smooth moon caps on the center covering the hub.
Nice modern black sidewall tires adorn each corner and weigh in as
235/75R16's looking like new with deep treads.
Interior
Swing open the blue painted metal door panels and we think it's
going to be utilitarian, and for the doors we would be correct.
They show in Sheridan Blue steel with black vinyl lowers and some
shiny chrome dress up. We peer inside and are greeted with a pair
of chrome trimmed and white piped 1964 Galaxie bucket seats with
puffy tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters. Up front is a
brushed finished tilting steering column topped by a black rimmed 3
spoke drilled steering wheel. The dash has been modernized but
retains its full metal jacket, only now painted in Sheridan Blue.
The gauges have been replaced black face AutoMeter units and some
chrome trim dresses up the dash face as it dips down next to the
gauges. A few small knobs and pulls pepper the dash lower and
hanging underneath is a trio of supportinggauges within chrome
bezels. Also we see a metal horizontal grate for the speaker
although no radio is installed. We note some wiring hanging below
the dash, and then a lineup of the ashtray and glove box also in
blue painted metal runs to the edge of the passenger side. Below is
a light blue heater box, some clean black carpeting and a long
Hurst shifter reaching for the driver's hand in the center. The
rest of the interior is lined with black melamine and is nice and
tight.
Drivetrain
A rise of the voluptuous hood and you are gazing into a wonderful
restored engine bay, which now includes a rebuilt gen 3 5.3 liter
V8 LS engine. It's topped with a Holley 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor
underneath a chromed open air cleaner covering and atop an
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold. On back is a rebuilt
NV5000 5-speed manual transmission, and way back to spin the rear
tires is an all new 10 bolt 3.08 Posi rear axle. Headers and a
glasspack equipped dual exhaust are now on for better performance
and a nice melodious sound from this blue beauty.
Undercarriage
Factory steel framing is seen and it sports no rust, just black
paint. We note a few areas of boxing for the frame that helps with
handling and overall chassis strength. The new wood bed floor shows
through and solid stamped floor pans and framing structure for the
mill are in front. Tubular front control arms are in for the
Mustang 2 rack and pinion steering and coilover equipped
independent suspension. In the back is a 4 bar suspension with
adjustablecoilovers to get the ride height just right baby bear.
These suspension parts work in conjunction with power front disc
braking and power drum rear brakes.
Drive-Ability
I sat upon the snappy black vinyl seat and peered into the new
gauges and dash and turned the key to my test drive. Here in the
track it performed beautifully without a snag on any level. Heat
was hot, steering power assisted, and braking was a panic stopping
bias free experience. All good on the driver front, just pick your
stereo of choice and wiper motor to make this baby a daily
driver.
For an individual who just enjoys a nostalgic truck cruiser in a
truly original looking but yet modernized truck package, this could
be it. For the die hard fan who wants to show a reliable and
driveable example of the F-100, this could be it. For the business
who may want to use it as a promotional piece, and attract a lot of
eyeballs, this could be it. Make your way here for a test drive as
this could be it! BooYah!
