Very cool Mustang LX 5.0 with numerous upgrades. One of 236 in
Almond. 60,242 original miles. Vortech supercharger, GT40 intake,
4-wheel disc, Steeda suspension, and more. Very fast,
professionally tuned, and ready to rock.If you're about 50 years
old, this was the car you dreamed of owning in the early 1990s. The
Ford Mustang LX 5.0 was fast, affordable fun and the aftermarket
that sprang up around it was as big as the boom that followed the
introduction of the small block Chevy. This beautiful 1989 Ford
Mustang LX 5.0 hatchback is built exactly the way you wanted to
build yours: supercharged, lowered, with disc brakes all around.
And before you dismiss it because it's not red, take a closer
look-the unusual Almond color actually works rather well on the LX
bodywork. Only 236 were built in this color, so it's quite rare,
and if there's such a thing as a 5.0 that's a sleeper, this might
be it. Aside from the lowered suspension, the Cobra-style grille up
front, and 1985 GT taillights, it remains completely stock, which
isn't so common in the Mustang world of cowl induction hoods and
wild spoilers. That's original paint and it remains in fantastic
shape with no damage, no signs of rust, and factory-style body
alignment that's actually pretty good. The black wrap-around body
moldings provide a nice contrast to the light-colored bodywork and
there's a single pinstripe that highlights the subtle curve of the
fenders. We've seen a lot of 5.0 Mustangs but not many are this
clean and solid. For 1989, the LX also got a nice upgrade inside-the
GT's sport seats, which were a big improvement over the base chairs
that made the LX a value-leader. The subtle tan plaid upholstery is
especially attractive and makes this LX stand out in a crowd. Most
of the hardware is stock, but it's got the usual 5.0 upgrades,
including a short shifter for the 5-speed that snaps through the
gears like a bolt-action rifle. White-faced Auto Meter gauges were
mounted on the A-pillar to monitor boost and fuel pressure, along
with a trio of matching dials in the center stack for oil pressure,
temperature, and voltage. The factory speedometer and tach are big
and easy to read and all the controls fall to hand easily-for an
inexpensive car the ergonomics are excellent. There's also an
upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/MP3 stereo, and this car is optioned with
power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, A/C, power
mirrors, and cruise control. The upholstery is in excellent shape
and the carpets were replaced a few years ago to give it a nicely
finished look. The back seat looks completely unused and with
fold-down seats and the big hatch area, this is even a practical
pony car. This car is so well-maintained that even the roll-up
hatch cover is still in place and fully intact. Someone really
loved this car.OK, the big news is under the hood where the
legendary 5.0 has been fortified with a Vortech supercharger making
about 7 pounds of boost, so it's pump gas friendly. Other upgrades
include the GT40 tubular intake manifold (seen the prices on those
lately?), AFR aluminum cylinder heads, a Ford Motorsport B303
camshaft, and a set of shorty headers feeding an upgraded exhaust
system with high-flow cats. Supporting equipment includes a giant
aluminum radiator, bigger injectors, and a custom tune to make it
run like a stocker. You'll spot the modified master cylinder which
is for the 4-wheel disc setup from Stainless Steel Brakes, which
also feature slotted rotors. The suspension is full of Steeda
upgrades, including springs, adjustable shocks, and adjustable
strut mounts. The tub is reinforced with weld-in subframe
connectors that really make a difference that you can feel and the
Flowmaster exhaust sounds fantastic. 3.55 gears were fitted in the
rear end-with the supercharger, you don't need a lot of gear to get
it moving-and there's an upgraded fuel pump to keep the engine fed.
Topping off the list of upgrades are those beautiful ROH Sniper
aluminum wheels wearing stock-sized 225/55/16 performance radials
with a lot of life left in them.Extras include some spare parts
such as the original ring and pinion, taillights, and overflow
bottle, plus a few odds and ends. It also comes with a dyno sheet
showing 403 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque at the wheels.Admit
it, this is the car you wanted to build when you were pouring
through all those magazines in the '90s. Well, here it is, a second
chance to own a legend and with the way Fox Mustang prices are
accelerating, it might even be a smart investment someday.
Beautifully built, properly tuned, and nicely maintained, this is
like buying the car and getting the upgrades for free. Call
