In the 1950's, thanks to the creative minds of artists and car
builders such as George Barris, Von Dutch, and Ed Roth, a new form
of automotive car customization was born out of southern
California. That new movement was Kustom Kulture and with it came
frenched headlights, shaved doors, wild pearl paints with heavy
metallic flake, and some very adventurous bodywork. This 1958 Ford
Thunderbird, aptly named "The Kopper Kaballero", is an excellent
example of how Kustom Kulture can turn a factory cruiser into a
rolling work of art. The restoration and Kustom build on this
gorgeous Thunderbird was completed in 2001 by Lucky 7 Rods and
Customs out of Antioch, CA. During the restoration, the Thunderbird
received some mild body modifications in the form of shaved doors
and trunk lid that are opened via a remote key fob. The stunning
Root Beer Pearl Metallic paintwork was laid down by Lucky 7's
Marcos Garcia and features plenty of intricate pinstriping, lacing
and striping fitting of a period Kustom car build. Complimenting
the exterior of this Kustom Thunderbird is a custom bullet-ordained
grille, vintage Lucas Flamethrower headlights, custom Lucky 7
emblems, and chrome-plated steel wheels fitted with custom-made
bullet center caps wrapped in wide whitewall tires. The custom
interior work was completed by Divine's Custom Interiors and was
finished in Ford off-white vinyl with Ford emberglo vinyl inserts.
The custom interior features a tuck-and-roll custom center console,
custom pinstriping by Marcos Garcia, GM speckle carpet, and a 1958
Impala rear speaker fitted with period-correct Thunderbird emblem.
Powering this fantastic Kustom Thunderbird is its correct 352 cubic
inch V8 that was rebuilt during the restoration. Transferring power
to the rear end is the Thunderbird's 3-speed automatic
transmission. Both the engine and transmission perform just as they
should and pull this Thunderbird down the road with ease. This
beautiful Thunderbird was featured in the May 2004 issue of Custom
Rodder magazine where the car received a 4-page spread. This 1958
Thunderbird is nicely equipped with options such as power steering,
power brakes, factory air conditioning, power windows, hidden
bluetooth stereo, power front seats, remote opening doors and
truck, variable speed wipers and heater/defrost. If you are in the
market for a one-of-a-kind 1958 Ford Thunderbird or are just
looking for a stunning example of Kustom Kulture that is turn-key
ready to drive to your local cruise-in or car show, then you will
not want to miss your chance to own "The Kopper Kaballero".
