1957 Dodge Coronet, 4 door with the same monster D-500 325-cubic
inch 285 horsepower Hemi with single four-barrel carburetor that 57
police cars had. In 1957 the Police Pursuit D-500 Dodge was very
popular with law enforcement, so much so that the Missouri Highway
Patrol ordered 400 of them. These early Hemi powerhouses propelled
the 1956 Chrysler 300 models to many NASCAR wins. This car also
features fender skirts and two rear antennas. The 1957 Dodge
Coronet received a drastic new design. "Forward Look" styling,
dubbed "swept wing", featured tall, sweeping fins, copious amounts
of chrome trim, wraparound windshields, and exhaust-style
taillights. The cars were also long, low, and wide, distinct from
any other car manufacturers were manufacturing. Featuring several
exterior changes: new dual headlamps & dual hood ornaments. The
Dodge Coronet of this era and future years were terrific sellers
and sought by many. Superior handling over other '50s cars.
Torsion-Aire Ride (torsion bar) front suspension and a heavy-duty
suspension with heavy-duty shock absorbers and a heavy-duty
leaf-sprung rear. A 3.73:1 rear axle was standard. Paint and body.
2 tone Dodge Tropical Coral and Glacier White. Upper and lower
2-piece chrome bumper. The top dipped down allowing a nice front
and center space for branding, and the lower piece was split in
half by the license plate. Hooded (The top of the fender came over
the top of the single headlight and the fog lamp). Beautiful lines,
body fit and gap plus the alternating 2 colors made a sleek &
elegant body design. Your eyes naturally follow one shape into
another. Very cutting-edge look that put the other big 2 on notice.
Interior: A leather topped, almost houndstooth, like fabric in the
middle and leather siding on the bench seat were a focal point of
the interior. Power windows were a new standard feature. The fourth
generation of styling and mechanical improvements was introduced in
1957 and would continue through 1959. Dash mounted rear view
mirror. 2 tone steel dash Gray on top and repeated Glacier White on
the face, etc. Original push button 80 M radio. Once again, this is
a museum car and whether the radio works or not would require a new
battery. The speedometer was wide and centered with the steering
wheel and underneath was a blacked out, chrome trimmed gauge
cluster. A black painted glove box door created an elegant
symmetry. Red horizontal stitched leathers door panel tops with a
vertical lined trim strip split the Red from the Black bottom of
the door panel. Longer than typical door levers provided both form
& function as this is a large car with large heavier doors.
Stopping power was by 12-inch diameter drums, and 13 optional rear
axles were available, ranging from 2.92:1 through 6.17:1.
Suspension upgrades included a Torsion-Air Ride setup in the front,
along with heavy-duty shocks, and a heavy-duty leaf-sprung rear.
7.60x15 tires on 15x8-inch wheels, with wide white walls. This
vehicle is either classic, antique, exotic, super rare, or all of
