Vehicle Description
This 1963 Pontiac Catalina is a beautifully restored 2 door hardtop
outfitted with fantastic performance-oriented and creature comfort
options! By the late 50s and early 60s, Pontiac reinvented its
reputation from a boring car that perhaps your parents drove and
garnered quite a following of younger buyers who desired cars that
offered impressive performance. In fact, in the early 60s, Pontiacs
seemed to dominate on racetracks and drag strips around the
country. Then, in 1963, Pontiac's parent company General Motors
grounded Pontiac's high performance momentum to complete stop with
GM's anti-racing edict issued in January 1963 that required Pontiac
and the other GM divisions to abandon factory support for
competition racing. Despite Pontiac no longer supporting high
performance competitions and teams, the GM marque continued to
offer performance-oriented options in 1963. Introduced on October
4, 1962, the '63 Pontiacs were marketed as being a true step up in
style and luxury. This was especially true for the entry-level
Catalinas which sported a number of styling updates. At the nose,
the pair of headlights were rotated 90 degrees in a vertical
alignment, straddling a new-look recessed split grille. The side
profile of the Catalina also got a major facelift. The body lines
were squarer than previous generations and simultaneously the
roofline was also more angular, yielding a more modern and
distinguished side silhouette. Wrapping up the new-look rear end
were newly redesigned vertical stacked, wraparound taillights that
straddled a redesigned decklid and decklid trim. This particular
example comes with over 30 years of enthusiast ownership who
clearly took great care of the car while under their stewardship.
Under the hood on this '63 Catalina is 389 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed
by a Tri-Power carburetor setup, consisting of three dual-barrel
carburetors, that together were said to have created 313 horsepower
when new. The Tri-Power 389 V8 is hooked up to a 4 speed manual
transmission with a floor mounted shifter which makes this early
Pontiac muscle car an absolute blast to drive and is just how this
car came back in 1963. Exhaust exits the powerful Pontiac
powerplant via a dual exhaust setup that generates a nice throaty
sound out of the rear tailpipes. In addition to the factory
performance options, this 1963 Pontiac Catalina is loaded with
wonderful comfort options! With power steering, maneuvering this
'63 Pontiac in and out of a tight space at the local car show or
drive-in is almost effortless and the overall driving experience is
much improved. With power brakes, bringing this '63 Catalina
hardtop to a complete stop is made much easier especially with all
of that extra horsepower under the hood. Speaking of horsepower,
you'll be able to keep the rubber to the pavement with this
Catalina since it comes equipped with a Safe-T-Track positraction
rear differential. Cruising on a set of thin whitewall radial tires
mounted on optional Pontiac 8-lug wheels, this Catalina rides down
the road smoothly and in style! The exterior of this Catalina has
been correctly refinished in a beautiful Grenadier Red, just how
she came back in 1963. The interior of this 1963 Pontiac Catalina
is absolutely gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been
correctly reupholstered in Maroon vinyl with tri-tone maroon cloth
inserts, accented with white accents and white welting cord. The
matching carpeting, door panels, and dash are in wonderful
condition as well and, besides the upgraded woodgrain steering
wheel, appear to be in their stock configuration. Instrumentation
includes a cluster-mounted 120 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, and
fuel gauge, along with a column-mounted 8,000 RPM aftermarket
tachometer, and aftermarket under-dash temperature and oil pressure
gauges. The dash is finished with a Super Deluxe push-button AM
radio, heater and various other controls, and a locking glovebox.
Whether you're buying your first classic car or you're adding to
your existing PMD collection, this 1963 Pontiac Catalina would make
an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at
