Vehicle Description
1989 Chevrolet Scottsdale Pickup
For 1988, the fourth-generation C/K was introduced, including
1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1-ton pickup trucks and chassis cabs. In a
nomenclature revision, the 1500/2500/3500 payload series previously
used by GMC was also adopted by Chevrolet, (the Rounded-Line R/V
series would do so for 1989). At its launch, the new generation was
offered in two cab configurations and three bed configurations; the
extended cab was a first for GM full-size trucks. For 1990,
Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks underwent a minor exterior
revision, with upper trims, (Chevrolet Scottsdale/Silverado, and
GMC SLX/SLE), replacing four sealed-beam headlamps with white-lens
composite headlamps; base trims, (Cheyenne and GMC SL), continued
the use of two sealed-beam headlamps. Two new versions, (exclusive
to Chevrolet), were introduced: the W/T 1500 and the 454SS. The W/T
1500, (Work Truck), was a de-contented version of the Cheyenne
marketed primarily for work use and was only available with the 4.3
L V6 and 8' bed; the 454SS combined elements of the Sport Equipment
Package with the 7.4 L V8 of 3500-series trucks.
For consignment, a believed 2 owner truck with which the consignor
drove to our facility making the trip in a little less than 8 hours
in this 83,469 title verified actual mileage truck. Previously
owned by a farmer from Ohio, and was ordered with the Scottsdale
trim as the farmer did not believe in air conditioning this no
frills hauler is ready, willing and able to meet all your needs.
Since our consignor purchased the truck from the farmer's estate it
was treated to a deep cleaning to remove the "farm", hasgone
through a comprehensive safety inspection and was treated to a new
headliner, windshield and oxygen sensor. So now gracing our
overstuffed truck room we have a rust-free and well maintained
example of classic pickup from GM and 1989.
Exterior
Bathed in the factory application of Light French Blue with some
slight fading and just the beginnings of bubbling in the cab
corners, we shake hands with straight steel sporting nicely minded
gaps throughout. With Scottsdale trimmings, meaning plenty of
stainless steel accents, chrome grille and bumper, and black window
and wheel well trimmings we have a classic worker bee ready to take
on 100K miles of faithful service. More black trimmings are seen
for the lower belt line trimmings thatencircle the entire body,
including the bumpers adding some pizazz to the overall slab sided
body. Way back is a 8-foot bed covered with a Leer aftermarket body
matching Light French Blue. Within this cap are tinted windows and
it gets taller as we move towards the tailgate. Speaking of which,
it is sportinga black andgold CHEVROLET full length insert and
there is a shiny chrome step-up bumper below and a heavy duty tow
package just below the rear bumper. 15-inch rally wheels wrapped by
deeply treaded black walls are noted on all 4 corners of this
2-wheel drive pickup.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals an intricate use of dark and light
blue molded vinyl with a storage area on the bottoms, and many
differing panels to make up just the doors. Inside is a tweed
broadcloth pattern bench seat stretching from door to door and this
tuck and roll insert and smooth outer bolster covered seat is in
excellent condition showing little wear. In front is the original
factory configured blue molded vinyl dash with a black instrument
cluster using the square and rectangle design of the mid 1980's.
The factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo is installed in its factory
location and slightly faded light blue rubber matting is on the
floors and remains clean, and above is a newly installed felted
headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the original unrestored engine bay is the
original 350ci V8. It is fed fuel by EFI and has a 700R4 4-speed
automatic transmission on back along with a 10-bolt rear axle to
spin the rear tires.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust is noted on the rear axle and suspension
and just a bit on the frame, but the truck remains very
structurally sound. Still with black floor pans and rockers, and an
extra-large fuel tank has been optioned on. Power disc brakes are
on front, and power drums for the rear are noted and factory style
single exhaust is on for spent fossil removal.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and was ready for another 8 hour trip, although
our test drive would not have to be near this, just a few ticks
around the track and she was proven to work well. Nice smooth
acceleration and shifting, bias free panic stopping, and easy
drive-ability. All options were working as intended duringmy drive
but I did notice the shift indicator was not working in unison with
the shift lever on the column.
Whether it be your main mode of transportation, or a second truck
for a farm or ranch or cabin location, you are sure to have years
of reliable service left in this truck. No rust, maybe a refresh on
the exterior paint, but certainly it will be well accepted as is.
Go on, get to hauling!
