Vehicle Description
2003 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet
Carrera is a Spanish word and stands for "race". Porsche started
using the name on the 356 series, to show homage to Carrera
Panamericana, a border-to-border race held in Mexico from 1950 to
1954. The Carrera name has been added to many racing and race-ready
models since 1955: the 356, 904, 906, 911 up to 1977 and the 924.
In 1984, with the 911 G-model being in production for a decade
already, Porsche's marketing department started using the Carrera
name for a basic model to boost sales. The name was also used for
the Carrera GT supercar.
For your consideration, a very special Porsche Carrera Cabriolet,
996 V2 pampered, but not afraid to be driven daily commuter or
track day superstar and yes it goes like hell! Gorgeous Graphite
Gray interior full leather jackets, a Midnight Blue Metallic
exterior and the drop topper, and life is very good for a great
value, you can be in the seat of a 911.
Exterior
Sexy is the keyword for this car and it starts with the aerodynamic
integrated bumper, gracefully sloping headlights, and the smooth
front hood, all bathed in Porsche Midnight Blue Metallic. All of
the gaps are fairly straight, but we do note a few flaws in the
paint that are limited to stone chips and a few inclusions along
with a yellowed passenger's side headlight. The bulbous rear of the
vehicle works with the gray canvas drop top to form the sloping
rear, also with a seamless rear body matching bumper complete with
the sculpted taillights sounding either edge of the rear quarters.
A hidden rear spoiler automatically rises to help with the handling
when up to speed and fits nicely into the engine lid. Big 18-inch
multi-spoke Porsche wheels are wrapped in low profile all season
rubber on all 4 corners.
Interior
Graphite Gray leather, with just a nice touch of some break in
wear, covers the high back buckets, emblazoned with embossed
Porsche badges in the upper headrests portions. These front a
curvaceous sexy dash with some interplay of black panels and
cascading circular black faced gauges. A Sirius enabled radio along
with AM/FM functions as well as Bluetooth and Navigation can keep
you entertained on those long fast commutes via the Autobahn or
your local 4 lane interstate track. Take liberties with the speed
as this car is enabled with front and rear radar detection, cruise
control, memory seats, power windows, power locks, and a power top.
Matching pristine Graphite Gray carpet floods the floors and
remains amazingly clean. Noted is a gray top cover which adds to
the aero look when the top is in the down position.
Drivetrain
Shoehorned into the rear of the car is a 3.6 liter flat 6 cylinder
which has the capability of producing 315 peak horsepower. Chiseled
stainless steel exhaust snakes its way to the rear bottom of the
sportscar. A 6-speed manual transmission is bolted on, and this is
a naturally aspirated car with a 3.44 geared rear axle.
Undercarriage
With a 95 percent coverage of ground effects panels, only the
wheels are visible from the bottom. The panels are in very good
condition with slight road dirt and some scrapes on the lower front
cowl of the bodywork. Rockers are solid, and big 4-wheel disc
brakes are present along with 4 wheel independent suspension.
Drive-Ability
I could say a good time was had by all, but in reality, it was only
me alone on the test track. Here this car has unlimited
acceleration, smooth quick braking, and rail-like handling.
Steering is snappy and responsive, and this car can cruise all day
on the highway. All functions were flawlessly working diligently
including the glass rear window top.
Clearly well maintained, snappy 911 styling, big discs all around,
and the radar detection to keep you safe from the poh poh add up to
serious fun in a very affordable package. Take all the liberties
you want, and delight in the fact you are behind the wheel of a
classic 911/996..you big shot you!
