1966, Oldsmobile's bold Toronado gained immediate fame as America's
first front-wheel drive automobile produced since the Cord 810/812
of 1936-37. Power was delivered by Oldsmobile's biggest V-8 engine,
displacing 425 cubic inches and delivering 385 factory-rated
horsepower, paired with an innovative FWD drivetrain, including a
Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. Styling was, and remains
unmistakable, with main Toronado design cues including a low and
wide presence, blade-style front fenders, a long hood/short deck
hardtop profile, pop-up headlamps, and a Kamm-style rear treatment.
A true design and engineering masterpiece, the Toronado earned
Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year honors for 1966. True to
plan, the Toronado was a strong seller that year, with 40,963
leaving Oldsmobile dealer showrooms. Featuring the "9687" VIN
digits denoting a top-of-the-line Deluxe model, this first-year
Toronado is presented in spectacular condition inside and out.
Sporting a concours-quality refinish, the tornado retains its Body
Tag-correct Code U Dubonnet over the correct Trim Code 059 Plum
Deluxe cloth-and-vinyl interior. Desirable options include A/C,
power windows, tilt steering, and a power-adjustable Strado-Bench
split front bench seat with large fold-down central armrest. The
powerful Olds V-8 engine and surrounding engine compartment are
consistent with the rest of the vehicle, with factory correct
finishes and accessories. An upgraded aftermarket provides
entertainment in addition to the Toronado's throaty exhaust note.
Offered in outstanding condition throughout, this 1966 Oldsmobile
Toronado Deluxe is a true automotive milestone and worthy of the
