Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern
era with its C/K series lineup. The "C" designation identified
two-wheel-drive pickups, and the "K" identified 4X4s. The most
common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot
cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same
vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when
the 1998 Silverado replaced it.
Chevrolet produces some of the finest trucks on the planet and has
been doing so for a long time. Within each model range their avid
fans, and this 1972 iteration is no exception. There are custom
trucks and then there are CUSTOM TRUCKS, and this former hauler
falls squarely into the latter category. Painstakingly and lovingly
restored, customized to the hilt with full air ride suspension, a
nice green paint job, shiny chrome, a custom interior, a big inch
small block engine and modified definitely for the better, we have
a winner! Bingo.
Exterior
Finished in a miles deep Citrus Green respray, we note some
inclusions but the paint remains very nice with only a few minor
scratches and chip offs. The chrome is in like new condition along
with badging and trim as is the glass with the custom full door
windows, now showing with a wing window delete. Up front is the
long recognized blue bowtie badged highly polished eggcrate grille
with outboard single headlights resting in black and polished
stainless bezels. From here we shake hands with a custom fiberglass
hood with a 6-inch cowl induction scoop, providing a very menacing
look to this hauler. Out back we note another like new bumper and
just above are the tall and thin factory tail lights framing the
CHEVROLET embossed tailgate. A black tonneau cover stretches over
top of the bed and when opened gives us a view of the black and
silver custom bed with its mini-tubs, custom frame, airbags, the
relocated battery, custom 15 gallon fuel cell, Air Ride Industries
compressor and air tanks along with the lines for the entire air
system. 15-inch highly polished Weld Rodlite wheels are on all 4
corners and are wrapped in deeply treaded blackwall rubber giving
the perfect look to this truck.
Interior
A complete redo inside here with pristine door panels finished in
black vertically stitched vinyl with Citrus Green steel framing,
nice door handles and cranks. Looking inside there is a newly
recovered bench seat with more black vinyl for the bolsters and
some snappy smooth and hobnail black inserts. A central armrest can
be folded up to make room for 3 and when down gives you access to
the 4 air ride control toggles as well as 4 other switches and the
pressure gauges for the air system. The factory dash has been
retained with its padded black topper and Citrus steel face.
Original gauges show with a black background and white lettering
and offset the Citrus Green nicely. Added into the bezel are a
4-some of small silver face Autometer gauges and down below the
dash is an AutoMeter silver face tachometer. An aftermarket Alpine
AM/FM/CD player is installed into the stock location and in front
of the passenger is a green colored glove box door. Clean black
carpet floods the floors and hold the B&M ratchet-style racing
shifter and above is a nicely done black ribbed plastic headliner
with a small console and multiple speakers that tie into the
subwoofer hidden behind the seat, all being framed by more Citrus
steel. Im just green with envy!
Drivetrain
Under the huge scooped fiberglass hood is a consignor-stated 406ci
V8 all painted in black. This sits in a gleaming engine bay thanks
to the chrome finished inner wheel houses. All is very clean with
ribbed cast valve coverings, a chrome air cleaner and a 4-barrel
Holley 750cfm carburetor setup atop a Dart aluminum intake
manifold. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with heavy duty
clutches and sprags along with a shift kit and 10" 3500rpm stall
converter is attached to the back of this clean engine. A 12-bolt
rear with 3.42 gearing and an Eaton Positraction unit is also seen.
We note a high torque starter, high output mini alternator and
serpentine belt drive system on the front of the mill keeping
things tidy and clean in the bay.
Undercarriage
The frame appears intact and strong and provides support for the
rust free cab floors and bed. We note a custom rear frame section
has been fabricated to accommodate the air ride system lowering
capabilities as well as the mini-tubs. Power disc brakes are on for
the front and power drums provide the whoah factor for the rear.
Independent air bag suspension is noted for the front with drop
spindles and tubular upper control arms and in the back, a 4 link
and air bag suspension provides the ride. This arrangementallows
you to always achieve the perfect stance depending on your mood.
Dual exhaust with headers and Flowmaster mufflers remove spent
fossils and end just in front of the rear axle.
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and this engine comes to life with a throaty
growl. Setting our ride height and a slip of the shifter into drive
and we were off to the races, or rather the Classic Auto Mall
acreage, where we the truck provided us with smooth shifting, no
hesitation in the engine, and a much better ride than your
typically get from a truck. New interior proved to be comfortable,
and all functions were operational at the time of our drive.
Pretty much a total restoration and with many new parts, surfaces
and paint. Tasteful modifications abound and come together to form
a much better version of the 1972 C10 than the factory ever
envisioned. All buttoned up and ready to show and go thanks to the
big inch small block under the hood. But don't wait too long, this
breed of Chevrolet trucks are hot and never last long in our
Hallowed Halls.
