In 1950, Volkswagen made a significant debut with the Type 2, also
referred to as the T1 during its initial generation. These early
Type 2 models, which were based on the Type 1 Beetle, showcased the
iconic design elements that have since become classics: the sleek
trim lines and the prominent chrome VW emblem gracing the
front.
The T1 Type 2 was impressively versatile, offered in a range of
body styles and variations, including pickup trucks, panel vans,
and camping vehicles, all powered by a rear-mounted engine. Among
the most iconic variations were the Samba and the Westfalia.
Production of the T1 in Europe concluded in 1967, but in Brazil, it
continued until 1975. It was eventually succeeded by the T2 Type
2.
