Vehicle Description
2001 Lincoln Town Car Executive FederalLimousine
When Executive Coach relocated Armbruster's Fort Smith operations
to Springfield, Missouri in 1989, Chris Witte, a Fort Smith
businessman, purchased the vacant plants from Executive and opened
a new limousine company called Federal Coach. Staffed by former
Armbruster employees, another former Armbruster/Stageway and
Executive Coach employee - Dewayne Thompson - oversees day-to-day
operations of Federal which is now one of the largest coachbuilders
in the country. Federal Coach is located in Fort Smith,
Arkansas...the birthplace of the original six-door limousine.
Federal Coach and Fort Smith have long been known for the tradition
of Funeral Coach, Limousine and Bus Manufacturing. For more than
one hundred years, Fort Smith has been a world leader in specialty
vehicle manufacturing technology. The craftsmen and technicians
contributing to Federal's renowned "fit and finish" have honed
their skills over many years. Many of these craftsmen are second
and even third generation participants in this unique fort Smith
legacy. Federal Coach's commitment to quality is reflected in the
modern manufacturing plant where Federal Funeral Coaches,
Professional and VIP Limousines and Buses are built. The
state-of-the-art facility utilizes advanced manufacturing processes
and equipment and its management philosophy of continuous
improvement ensures precise quality controls. The plant is staffed
by a well-trained and dedicated work force who take pride in their
objective to "Engineer and produce the highest quality, safest and
most desired limousines, funeral coaches and buses in the
market.

Exterior
In a major break from Lincoln styling tradition, the Town Car
abandoned many of the straight-edged lines of its predecessor.
Adopting styling cues of the outgoing Mark VIII and the 1995
Continental, this car adopted a curved design scheme in place of
the previous straight-lined body. While the radiator grille was
retained, its rectangular shape was changed to oval, (its waterfall
pattern was adopted by the Lincoln Navigator introduced alongside
it), and the hood ornament was deleted. The curved design scheme
carried further to the rear of this car in the C-pillar, (losing
its opera windows), into the trunk lid. To differentiate from its
Mercury counterpart, the Town Car switched to individual tail
lamps, deleting the filler panel on the trunk lid; a large chrome
surround was used on the trunk lid to mount the license plate. This
new styling is all wrapped in what else but black for this
mid-length Limo and trimmed in beautifully preserved chrome. Noted
the front bumper has seen some action with numerous scratches and
scrapes and the largest glaring flaw is the dent on the right of
the trunk lid. A black vinyl top covers the exceedinglylong roof of
this car and 16-inch turbine style wheels are on all 4 corners.

Interior
A swing of any of the 6 long doors gives us a view of plenty of
room to romp around in, toast the town, or just arrive in Uber
style..Look! A celebrity...let's see who gets out...oh it's just
the Classic Auto Mall Writer...but I digress.Beautiful and
luxurious charcoal gray covers most of the interior surfaces. All
controls are within the door panels and have a wood applique
background which adds some nice contrast to the charcoal. Well
preserved charcoal gray overstuffed large leather buckets are
separated by a fold down armrest up front. If up, it could
accommodate a 3rd passenger upfront. The center and rear bench
seating is just as luxurious and affords plenty of legroom. The
steering wheel has controls for the cruise control and on the dash
is a mixture of green LED readouts and analog gauges within faux
walnut burl panels. This holds true for the radio/cassette player
and climate control center as well. Blackcarpet ,which is clean,
floods the floors, and a tight headliner floats above. Rollin' in
style never gives up and is a list as long as its chassis for all
the luxury options on-board.
Drivetrain
A 4.6 liter SOHC V8 is under the long hood and this has to be fed
by EFI. On back is the 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission with a
Ford 8.8 inch 3.08 gear rear axle.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust on the usual suspects, but the frame and
wheel tubs are rust free and structurally sound. We note a few of
the flooring areas have heavy surface rust, that if leftunattended
could become problematic. Independent coil springs for the front
suspension and airbags for the rear. Power disc brakes are all
around, and the dual exhaust system is rust free.
Drive-Ability
As with any car that comes through our door, the brake test is the
most important checklist item and this car did not pass. The brake
pedal went to the floor, and while the car does stop, we did not
perform a test drive forsafety reasons. On thecontrol front we
found the AC to be blowing warm and the air ride warning light was
on. Some mechanical TLC is in order before you start taking your
friends out for a night on the town.
Nicely preserved from 2001, and with a little work on the brakes
this is a jump in and turn the key and go car. Think of those long
nights where the cash just piles up for you. Come into Classic Auto
Mall and negotiate a dill-e-o, and you'll be off like a prom
dress.
