Vehicle Description
1991 Ford Escort GT Hatchback
The North American version of the Ford Escort is a range of cars
that was sold by Ford from the 1981 to 2003 model years. The direct
successor of the Ford Pinto, the Escort also largely overtook the
role of the European-imported Ford Fiesta as the smallest vehicle
in the Ford model line in North America. Produced across three
generations, the first generation was a subcompact; the latter two
generations were compact cars. Becoming highly successful in the
marketplace, the Escort became the best-selling car in the United
States after 1982, a position it would hold for much of the
1980s.
For consignment, a 1991 Ford Escort GT which would normally be just
an everyday every person's car however due to passionate owners
this car has been very well cared for and papered as a valuable
classic car would have been. It spent its life in a climate
controlled garage, and comes with Deluxe Marti Report which is
normally reserved for classics, and because of its tender loving
care really is.
Exterior
This sporty little car is all bathed in factory Cayman Green
Metallic and it is nearly right off the showroom floor condition. A
few underlying bubbles and some orange peel has developed near the
seams but it is very minor. The square and rectangle era was ending
from the 1980's and this car has some hints of it but is more
rounded over than the typical square and rectangle. It has neoprene
bumpers matching the body, and an interesting angled vented grille
sporting said vents only on the drivers side. Down low, the rockers
have some sporty flaring and the car has tinted side glass. The
roofline is exaggerated for the rear passengers to have plenty of
viewing glass, and as it is a GT version it has a rear spoiler on
the trunk/hatchback. Lighting extends the width of the back of the
car and even wraps around the corners of the rear quarters, with
the hatchback creating a Mercedes-esque V shape in its design.
Another neoprene bumper for the back matching the body and the car
even has turbine styled color matching wheels wrapped in 185/60R15
rubber from 2023 so it IS like new.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals pristine utilitarian light and dark
gray mixture of vinyl molded panels and small checkered pattern
broadcloth inserts. These are clean and on the bottoms is a storage
tray with some gray carpeting. The carpeting is also on the floors
of the interior, where in it float wide medium back height
broadcloth buckets. These have gray velour bolsters and uppers and
the inserts use the lighter gray small checkered pattern. The
border between the two is a teal piping aging some color and
contrast as well as the inserts use some wide tuck and roll
stitched in panels. A pristine rear bench has the same pattern and
provides extra room for 3 more passengers. A center console is in
between the buckets and has some storage and the shifter. As it
reaches the dash climate controls and an AM/FM Cassette player is
installed and all very clean. The cluster is black and very simply
appointed with circular sweep gauges, black faced with white
lettering and numerals. The upper dash is titanium gray and a lower
molded bottom is a light warmer gray. A gray felted material line
headliner has a few areas of slight sagging but is mostly tight,
and sporting a sunroof.
Drivetrain
Shoehorned under the hood is a well cared for and very clean OHC
1.8 liter I-4 cylinder engine. It has EFI and a F-4EAT 4-speed
automatic transmission. Turning the front tires is a 3.74 final
drive axle and stock exhaust is there for the exhale. The engine
has no corrosion or dirt to speak of under this hood.
Undercarriage
As expected due to its TLC there is no rust or even much road dirt.
Factory undercoating in black abounds and covers the spare tire and
fuel tank area in the back. Suspension is courtesy of
Macphersonwith independentstruts and arms all around. Power disc
brakes are on all 4 corners. Very clean and obviously well cared
for.
Drive-Ability
The car started immediately and ran as smooth as silk. It handled
nicely and access in and out is easy with the wide doors for front
and rear passengers. All functions are working nicely and all is
very clean and tidy.
Certainly not a real valuable rare collectible, but due to its care
by a long term Ford collector, this wonderful example is still like
new and ready to grab some miles and fun or provide utilitarian
transportation in vintage style! A Cayman GT edition up for grabs,
so you better grab fast as these kinds of examples tend to go
quickly.
