Great 8 winner! This is one of the most coveted awards a hot rod
can win! The custom fabrication and extreme attention to detail is
very impressive. It would cost at least a 1/4 million dollars in a
professional shop to duplicate today. Known as "Business Edition"
it was built and owned by Samson Design, a high end shop with many
national awards to their credit. They kept the car until 2017
showing it at major events to showcase their work. It was also
featured in Street Rodder magazine. It won in 2011 at the Detroit
Autorama and has only 110 miles since.
EXTERIOR: Shaved, nosed, and decked. The body work is the best of
the best. Arrow straight, no shrinkage or damage. The trim,
handles, gutters, taillights were removed and filled smooth. The
hood, rockers and trunk lid were lengthened 3/4 inch. The grill was
smoothed and custom parking lights were added. Rich looking deep
brown metallic with golden highlights in the sun. DuPont premium
paint. The bumpers and miscellaneous trim were painted a pewter
color. New smoked glass. Custom headlights and a horizontal
taillight. Staggered size Billet Specialty wheels: 18s in front,
20s in back. Custom made "Business Edition" center caps were
installed.
INTERIOR: Worthy of the finest luxury car. The design, materials
workmanship is highly impressive. A custom console has a Locar
shifter and a panel hiding the controls. In back, a pair of luggage
compartments gives it a unique look. The metal dash was completely
altered for a clean look. It features a custom designed gauge
cluster and a ribbed shield design that is replicated a few times
on the car. Even under the dash is completely boxed and
upholstered.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Custom fabricated inner pans and dual intake
air cleaner really says custom! The motor and heads were deburred
smooth and painted to match the car. It's powered by a 355 built by
Rick Darling Performance. On top is an Endurashine intake and
Edelbrock carb. The headers are polished.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It has been boxed and upholstered to match the
interior. Even under the lid has a custom upholstered panel and the
hinges are covered in leather boots. The fuel filler is hidden in
the trunk. The trunk lid opens from inside the car.
UNDERSIDE: Wow, the detail is amazing. Countless hours were spent
making the underside of this car show quality. All the metal is
smooth and filled with the same attention to detail as on top.
Fatman Fabrications drop spindles and custom swaybar. Custom cross
member fits around the motor. In back is a 4 link suspension with
QA1 adjustable coilover gas shocks and tubular control arms. Custom
brake system with disc at all four wheels. All stainless exhaust
polished like chrome and it exits in the center of the car in back.
Fabricated fuel tank notched out for the exhaust. The bottom of the
motor and trans has aluminum finned oil pan, flywheel cover and
transmission pan. It has a Turbo 350 automatic, custom driveshaft
and 1957 Chevy rear with 3.73 posi gears.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and prepared it better for driving.
We installed a spacer between the carb and manifold, so it runs
good when it's warm. We greased the front end, adjusted the
exhaust, and tightened the rear suspension to cure some rattles. We
rebuilt the idler arm, set the alignment, better installed the
steering box, replace the brake light switch, tightened the pedal
pivots, bled the brake system, and replaced the front wheel studs
with longer ones.
Simple yet elegant. This is an incredible custom build. You and I
will never fully appreciate the effort that went into all the
little details. This car will kill it at local shows. It's an
incredible value!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
