For Sale: 1965 Superformance GT40 in Irvine, California

Vehicle Description

To enhance his company's global reputation during the 1960s, Henry Ford II set his sights on beating Ferrari, Aston Martin and Jaguar on racetracks like Le Mans, Nrburgring and Spa. The racecar they built for international competition was the Ford GT, nicknamed the Ford GT40 because of the car's height. This car, P/2145 celebrates those victories with a modern twist.

The Ford GT40 made its debut at the 1964 Nrburgring race and P/2145 salutes that moment with its Nrburgring Silver paint scheme with black sill stripes. This GT40 is a true "one of one" car that will embarrass most modern exotics.

The sportscar features a driver's side Gurney Bubble for head clearance and satin black custom HRE center lock wheels (original style 15" BRM wheels are also available). This car has a custom belly pan, front canards, custom front splitter and rear Gurney flap. The GT40 protected by Ghost Shield PPF on the nose, side rocker panels and lower rear clamshell.

GT40P/2145 is powered by the legendary Ford Racing 5.4L supercharged V8, which churns out a whopping 540 horsepower. The motor is mated to a second-generation Ford GT 6-speed manual transaxle. Modifications made for the powerful drivetrain include a new radiator, cooling fans and custom shroud to provide additional cooling. Underneath the body is a fully independent front and rear suspension with progressive coil-over shocks and Wilwood vented disc brakes on all four corners.

This GT40 sports a non-traditional center shift location and left-hand drive layout similar to the 2005 Ford GT. The car was outfitted with Alcantara seats and center console, as well as a full sound and heat insulation in the cockpit for additional comfort.

The continuation GT40 racecar was manufactured under the scrutiny of Safir GT40 Spares, Ltd., the undisputed legal holder of the GT40 trademark. It is a quality recreation of the original that beat Ferrari at Le Mans. While developing the exhilarating GT40 continuation, engineers went to great lengths to ensure authenticity. The car is so genuine that it can legally wear the name "GT40" and carries a GT40/P chassis number that is eligible for the official GT40 registry.

The Superformance GT40 boasts a pressed steel roof and beautifully finished body available in wide body (1968) and extra wide body (1969) configurations, as well as both right and left hand drive. The GT40 continuation is built to exacting standards; over two thirds of the rolling chassis parts are interchangeable with that of an original car, including the "monocoque" style chassis.

The continuation GT40 is street legal and also ready for the track. GT40P/2145 is titled as a 1966 Ford GT with 1,754 miles.
