This particular 1955 R50 motorcycle holds the distinction of being the 464th of the new production twin, pre/2 R50 BMW motorcycles manufactured. That year saw the introduction of several groundbreaking innovations, including the transition from a telescoping liquid damper front fork to a Swing arm braced front end with a spring/shock absorber combination. A similar modification was made to the rear suspension, replacing the plunger-type system with a spring/shock combination. Numerous other changes, both cosmetic and functional, were implemented during this period, with some features carried over and further refined at a later date.
