You are probably familiar with the eleventh generation Ford Thunderbird. Introduced for the 2002 model year, this was the last version of the marquee as well as a tribute to the 1955-57 design. If you’ve ever considered one of these beautiful vehicles then this one should be at the top of your list. It is a one-owner Premium Hardtop version with only 17k miles and a spotless Autocheck report. It comes with the original window sticker, receipts, and Ford’s unique “Manage The Wait” package. But it is also a great looking car that runs and drives like new.
This Thunderbird was purchased from Mike Bass Ford in Lorain, OH and has remained with its original owner ever since. As a top-of-the-line Premium Hardtop version, this car comes with both a power fabric soft top and a painted hard top with porthole windows. This gives you three different looks and driving experiences from the same car. Note there is a parade boot when going topless too. This car also has the chrome aluminum 7-spoke wheels that were part of the Premium package and are the perfect accent for the factory Evening Black paint. Note the tires are original which some collectors like, however they should be replaced (we can assist if interested).
To power this version of the Thunderbird, Ford reached to their Jaguar division’s 3.9L all-aluminum V8. This 32-valve DOHC engine purrs nicely but will roar under throttle. This is coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission followed by a 2.69 rear end. Chassis highlights include a fully independent rear suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. It all makes for a great riding car with far more comfort and performance than its inspiration from 1955.
The Premium interior is done in black leather with Torch Red accents. Everything is in excellent condition as expected from a 17k-mile vehicle. Features include dual zone automatic temperature control and an AM/FM stereo with in-dash 6-disc CD changer. Everything works properly and all the warning lights turn off as they should. Along with the original window sticker, this car also comes with a complete “Manage The Wait” promotional package that was sent to anxious Thunderbird buyers awaiting delivery in the 2002 model year.
The Thunderbird has always been one of Ford’s premier models, and it has been offered in many shapes and sizes over its 50-year run. But none of them compare to the last generation. It maintained the style of the original design but with a half-century worth of technological advancements. So in the end you can maintain the swagger of a Baby Bird but with the practicality and performance of a modern car.
