There has always been a healthy competition between the "Big 3"
American automotive manufacturers and by the 1960's the "Pony car"
race was in full swing. Ford and Chrysler offered the first two
automobiles in the "pony car" market with the debut of the Ford
Mustang and Plymouth Barracuda, respectfully. In 1967, General
Motors released their entries into the "pony car" fray in the form
of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird. This 1968 Pontiac
Firebird is an excellent and very original example of these iconic
sports cars equipped with its numbers matching High-Output 400
cubic inch V8, the largest V8 available in the Firebird at the
time. This Firebird presents in overall excellent condition with
just under 90,000 actual miles. This Firebird benefits from an
older repaint in its factory correct Verdoro Green that shines very
well and is in excellent condition. Complimenting the Firebirds
Verdoro Green exterior is its excellent Black vinyl top, factory
chrome and stainless trim, hood-mounted tachometer, and
period-correct Pontiac Rally II wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial
T/A tires. The Firebird's Black vinyl interior is in excellent
condition as well. Powering this beautiful Firebird is its numbers
matching HO 400 cubic inch V8 backed by its numbers matching
Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission. Both the
engine and transmission perform just as they should and deliver
more than enough power to rocket this Firebird down the road with
ease. This Pontiac Firebird is nicely equipped with options such
as: power steering, power front disc brakes, Retrosound AM/FM
stereo, hood-mounted tachometer (in-op), heater/defrost, and
variable speed wipers. This great Firebird is nicely documented by
its PHS documents, a copy of its original window sticker, a copy of
its original dealer invoice, a partial build sheet, "user manual",
and plenty of service records. If you are in the market for a
turn-key ready Firebird that is ready to drive anywhere and would
show very well at any cruise-in or car show, then you will want to
take a very close look at this gorgeous 1968 Pontiac Firebird.
