Lifetime Arizona truck with long-term ownership. Transplanted
Lincoln Mark V 460 cubic inch V8 and automatic transmission.
Beautiful paint and bodywork. Unusual 8-foot stepside bed. An
updated Ford hauler with a great look. This cool Ford F100 pickup
has been in the same family for decades, spending almost all of its
life in warm, dry Arizona. That history shows in the laser-straight
bodywork and super clean undercarriage, which shows no evidence of
accidents or patchwork. We like the working-class look, too,
especially that side-mounted spare that gives it a
form-follows-function vibe that's quite appealing. The paint is a
metallic olive green, perhaps a little more glossy than the
original code L Dark Green but no less attractive. Panel fit is
quite good throughout, including that giant clamshell hood that
snugs down nicely without a big slam. The big 8-foot bed is a
little unusual and gives the truck great proportions as well as the
ability to tackle bigger jobs-why have a pickup if you can't do a
little work on weekends? There's also nice chrome on the bumpers, a
shiny original grille, twin side mirrors, and original emblems that
are in good condition. The bed is finished in natural oak with
spray-on bedliner on the sides, and there's a heavy-duty bed mat to
protect it so no worries about putting some gear in there. The
interior is certainly more comfortable than it would have been in
1964 thanks to cloth upholstery, matching headliner, and fresh
carpets that are a big step forward over the original vinyl seat
cover and rubber floor mat. The rest is pretty much as Ford
designed it, including the big steering wheel with a stylish horn
ring and the no-nonsense instrument panel. All the secondary
controls are grouped underneath and the only real upgrade is the
floor-mounted shifter for the Lincoln C6 3-speed automatic
transmission underneath. Seat belts have also been added in the
name of safety. There is no radio, but there wasn't one there in
1964, either, and we can appreciate the builder's desire to keep it
period-correct. There is, however, a massive heater under the dash
as well as a pair of fresh air vents to keep it comfortable in the
cab year-round. The original engine was a 262 cubic inch inline-6,
but this is a lot of truck to move and sometime in the
not-too-distant past a 460 cubic inch V8 from a '70s Lincoln Mark V
was transplanted into the F100's cavernous engine bay. It's a neat
fit in there and that's to mostly OEM hardware, it almost looks
like it was born there. Ford Blue on the engine certainly helps,
along with some factory decals on the open-element air cleaner. The
giant radiator has no problem keeping the big block cool (this is
an Arizona truck, remember) and the big 4-barrel carburetor on top
gives it great throttle response. And as a Lincoln motor, it's
docile, well-mannered, and idles nicely with a mellow rumble from
the custom Flowmaster dual exhaust underneath. The Lincoln's C6
3-speed automatic transmission made the trip as well, giving the
F100 easy road manners, and we're pretty sure that's the Lincoln's
rear end out back, although one 9-inch is very much like any other.
Regardless, it cruises easily at highway speeds. Power front disc
brakes were added and they make a big difference in traffic, but
the rest is pretty much as it was in 1964, with live axles and leaf
springs at both ends. It actually rides pretty well and as I
mentioned, it doesn't mind doing a little work on the side. Steel
wheels with poverty caps are definitely the right choice and it
sits on 235/75/15 Firestone radials of indeterminate
age.Documentation includes an original owner's manual, shop manual,
wiring diagrams, and restoration receipts. Thanks to long-term
ownership (including time with an expert Porsche mechanic) this
truck shows all the signs of having been loved. Add in the Arizona
sheetmetal and the no-hassles powertrain, and you get a fun hauler
that looks right and still works like it should. If that's your
kind of resto-mod, give us a call today!Harwood Motors always
