Vehicle Description
The XKE series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it
appeared on the automotive scene in 1961! As each new generation
was improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to
the buyers making it a very prestigious luxury sports car from
England! This included improved brakes, better suspension, superior
interior comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement
engines! By 1971, the short wheelbase offering was long gone in
favor of a quality ride, and power steering was now a standard
feature. The Series III was born with a V12 with quad
Zenith-Stromberg carburetion under the bonnet, and only 7,990
convertibles were produced over the entire four-year
production!
We are excited to offer this 1974 Jaguar XKE Series III Convertible
finished in Silver Gray exterior with a Red leather interior.
Powering this XKE is its original numbers matching 5.3-liter V12
engine producing a strong and responsive 272 horsepower and is
mated to a 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. Features
include air conditioning, chrome 15" wire spoke wheels with
American Classic whitewall tires, JVC cassette radio, polished
stainless steel exhaust system with proper fantail tip, leather
wrapped steering wheel, telescoping steering column, remote outside
driver mirror, and more! Standard options included a responsive
4-wheel independent suspension with matching disc brakes at all
four corners, power steering, front & rear bumper guards, and
Smiths instrumentation with electric tachometer!
Showing only 39,979 miles on the odometer, this Jaguar has been
well cared for and garage kept. It was sold new to a New Jersey
resident who would keep the vehicle for almost 50 years until he
sold it in March of 2022. Its next owner installed a full polished
stainless steel exhaust system which cost around $2,000, overhauled
the carburetors, installed a Pertronix electronic ignition system,
neutral safety switch, oil filter kit, thermostat, and cam cover
gasket. Since its arrival at our museum, we have continued to care
for this XKE and have retrofitted the air conditioning system to
accept R134a refrigerant, replaced the air intake trumpet boots,
air cleaner, air conditioning compressor & belt, tie rod end boots,
front & rear struts, transmission mount and bushing, front ball
joints, front & rear brake hoses, coolant hoses, fan switch,
exhaust clamps & hanger, turn signal, battery, oil filter and
performed an oil change.
These remain highly collectable and sought after vehicles and this
is a beautifully kept example! This Jaguar comes with copy of
original title and owner transfer paperwork, service receipts, 2
parts catalogues, extra key sets, and the maintenance & service
manual. Thank you for your interest and please contact us with any
additional questions or to schedule a visit to see our museum
firsthand!
