This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Convertible is a strong running
muscle car with fantastic options! 1971 marked the beginning to the
end of the muscle car era, ironically with John Z. Delorean, one of
the granddaddys of the muscle car, at the helm of Chevrolet. Of
course, the genesis of the muscle car originated from when Delorean
(while at sister GM marque Pontiac) put a full-size powerplant into
an intermediate-sized car. Chevrolet's mid-size car in 1971 was the
Chevelle and the muscle car formula worked wonders with Chevy
selling millions of muscle cars for the better part of the nearly
decade-long era. However, with rising gas prices and with new
government regulations, such as a changeover to low-lead and
unleaded gasoline, that were starting to take effect that limited
performance output of the classic muscle cars, the muscle car era
was winding down in the early 70s. In 1971, Chevrolet's mid-size
division consisted of the Chevelle which was divided into four
sub-series, the base-model Chevelle, the fancier Chevelle Malibu,
and two station wagons. Most customers seemed to prefer the
stepped-up Malibu models but the Convertibles were especially rare
with a mere 5,089 Malibu convertibles produced in 1971. Styling
changes to the '71 Chevelles were fairly modest. Up front,
Chevrolet reverted back to a single headlight design surrounded by
a square bezel and a new imposing twin-level grille with a bright
chrome horizontal divider was incorporated into the front end look.
The parking lights were also relocated to from the bumper in 1970
to the front fenders with dual wraparound lenses. In the rear, the
dual taillights were more recessed into the back bumpers as well.
The interiors also featured modest updates that were a bit more
plush than the previous year. Powering this '71 Chevelle is a 350
Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a Single 4 Barrel Carburetor mounted
atop an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. The 350 V8 is backed by
a TH350 Automatic Transmission that is shifted via a console
mounted Horseshoe-style shifter. Exhaust leaves the 350 V8 through
a set of headers and out through a throaty sounding dual exhaust
setup. This 1971 Malibu Convertible is outfitted with a number of
desirable, driver-friendly options. With a positraction rear
differential, you'll can be sure that you'll keep the rubber to the
pavement while cruising in this classic Chevy muscle car. Power
steering is also a welcome addition to any muscle car since it
makes turning into a tight space at the local car show or drive-in
much easier and makes the overall driving experience much more
enjoyable. This Chevelle Malibu also comes equipped with Power
Front Disc Brakes which provide plenty of stopping power especially
with all that horsepower under the hood. The white vinyl power
convertible top is in wonderful condition and it goes up and down
with the simple flick of a switch housed in the dash. Riding on a
set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on a set of Keystone
Klassic wheels, this 1971 Chevelle Convertible has a great period
look and even better ride. The exterior of this Malibu has been
correctly refinished in beautiful Cranberry Red paint along with
white SS-style hood and decklid stripes. The interior of this 1971
Chevrolet Malibu Convertible is gorgeous! The front bucket seats
and rear bench seat have been reupholstered in Ivory vinyl so that
you can stay cool while cruising on a hot summer day. The ivory
vinyl upholstered door panels, black carpeting, black padded
woodgrain dash, center console with horseshoe-style shifter, and
steering wheel are all in fantastic shape and appear to be in their
stock configuration. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120
MPH speedometer, 7,000 RPM tachometer with a 5,000 RPM redline, amp
gauge, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, along with a clock. The
woodgrain trimmed dash is completed with controls for the heater,
headlights, windshield washer and power convertible top controls,
along with a cigar lighter and upgraded retro-style AM/FM/Cassette
entertainment system. Whether you're adding to an existing Chevy
muscle car collection or you're buying your very first classic car,
this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Convertible would make an
excellent addition. Give Ellingson's a call today at
