With over 213,000 vehicles produced over a period spanning 2005 to 2012, the 997-generation Porsche 911 proved popular for customers and critics alike. Never before had so many variations on the popular 911 theme been available at one time, allowing buyers to choose precisely the vehicle they wanted to fit their specific needs. In 2009, Porsche updated the 997 with a suite of upgrades including direct injection or increased power and efficiency and, perhaps even more imporantly, offered the dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkuplung Automatic transmission instead of the aging Tiptronic S automatic. The new transmission, developed from experience on the 956 Le Mans racecar and a special 944 Turbo prototype, rewarded drivers with nearly instantaneous shifts for uninterrupted power delivery and a cunning ability to choose the perfect gear for nearly any situation.
With these advances, amongst numerous other changes including optional LED headlamps, a revised suspension, updated infotainment, and many others, the updated “997.2” 911 proved superior to the original 997 in essentially every capacity. As with the past several generations, the 911 was available in coupe, cabriolet, and targa variations, with variations offered in rear or all wheel drive and with a 6-speed manual or the aforementioned 7-speed PDK.
The magnificent 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet featured here is finished in stunning Basalt Black Metallic over a Sand Beige leather interior with a Black power convertible top.
