Vehicle Description
1999 Shelby Series 1 Roadster
The Series 1 is the only car ever designed and engineered by
Carroll Shelby from a clean sheet of paper, and built from the
ground up. All other Shelbys are re-engineered models produced by
other manufacturers and modified by Shelby. Prior to production of
the Series 1, significant costs were incurred in testing and
certification required to conform to 1999 Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standards. Once completed, a total of 249 production Series
1's were constructed by Shelby American, Inc., all as 1999
models
For consignment, a rare bird if you will with only 1 of 249 built
and low low title verified actual miles, (986 GEEZ). Fully
documented from order to delivery with every bit of paperwork one
could ask for when it comes to these prestigiouscars, and even a
photograph of the man himself, Carroll Shelby signing the dash. An
all-aluminum racing chassis, a stout 4.0 liter V8 and a very rare
example in house, clear the test track, my crack decoder and sports
car man is behind the wheel and rarin' to go, ready to see if these
maroon over silver body paint stripes come off!
Exterior
With a blank sheet of paper, Carroll Shelby borrowed from numerous
sources to produce this creation. Shades of a Viper, Porsche,
Corvette, Mazda and a few others have been masterfully mixed to
produce this true Carrol Shelby creation. All bathed in Centennial
Silver, with full burgundy metallic stripes, it's one of only a few
with this color combination. Beautiful curvaceous lines for the
front hood door and front quarter vents, and the rear with its
round lighting and dual central exhaust tips. One has to love the
eyebrow shaped rear quarter tops and how they gracefully melt onto
the rear panel. Wide rockers add to the racing look, and on all 4
corners are 18-inch Shelby alloy wheels...Lovely. Also, a note to
the black canvas top which neatly folds down into a flip up rear
cowling that curves and hugs the interior seats. GONE! Just like
this car when you get a bit goose with your boot.
Interior
Keeping it simple with the use of two toned tasteful gray tuck and
roll inserts and black surrounds for the seat bolsters. These high
backs support you doing the acceleration phase of your driving and
have shades of Michelin men in their design. All other designs for
the interior include the use of a french curve, and all systems
melt neatly into the dash which has been ergonomically designed for
comfort and visual stimuli! Gray carpeting covers the floors, and a
GM Monsoon AM/FM/Cassette/CD stereo system is installed for your
auditory pleasure. A chrome roll bar has been added on should
things on the track get a bit topsy turvy. Although the sound of
the engine should keep you occupied for a while! Ergonomics mixed
with sport and performance, it does not get any better than
this!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is immaculate with those low miles, and we see a 4.0
liter DOHC EFI Aurora V8 courtesy of Oldsmobile with the optional
added supercharger, (an 18k+ extra cost option), helps this super
cargenerate an estimated 450hp. On the back is a ZF 6-speed manual
transmission. More beautiful design to shoehorn all this technology
and power under the curvaceous hood with plenty of airflow inlets.
We note the use of carbon fiber on this engine is limitless. Kudos
Carroll.
Undercarriage
Shelby dynamic coil overs are the suspension, all attached to an
aluminum racing chassis. Stainless steel exhaust system is bolted
on along with Borla mufflers and this car achieves a 50/50 weight
distribution. Looks like a mere 986 miles were on this
undercarriage!
Drive-Ability
Awesome! Need we say more?? Strap in and enjoy. Carroll Shelby knew
how to provide excitement during your driving experience with all
functions working as they should.
Centennial Silver and Maroon stripes, the optional supercharger,
and tons upon tons of documentation from the date of order until
today. Low, Low original miles, molding injection nibs are still on
the tires, and it looks like the showroom car when it left back in
1999. With use of carbon fiber and fiberglass this car weighs in at
a mere 2400lbs and drives like a hurricane on wheels.
