Vehicle Description
-Verona Red with Black leather interior and Grey German square
weave carpeting, 3.5 liter 6-cylinder, 5-speed Manual transmission,
Alpina road wheels, Alpina pedals, Momo Prototipo steering wheel
with Alpina badge, sympathetically restored and modified from a low
original mileage example.
Initially released as the 2800 CS model M30 six-cylinder engine
with bodywork built by Karmann. The BMW E9 model range was produced
from 1968 to 1975. The E9 was extremely successful having raced
primarily in the European Touring Car Championship. In late 1971,
the 2800CS was replaced by the 3.0 CS and 3.0 CSi.
This 2800 CS enjoyed long term California ownership prior to being
consigned to the Gooding and Company, 2020 Amelia Island auction.
Purchased at auction by Autosport Designs, it was sold immediately
to a good client and friend of Autosport Designs. Always wanting to
have slightly hot rodded CS with an automatic transmission, the
previous owner had the following performed.
Work included: The supply and install of a rebuilt 1985 BMW 535 3.5
liter engine block and cylinder head, mated to its original type
intake manifold and carburetor as well as a 633 CSI automatic
transmission. A full service was performed, all filters, fluids,
belts, hoses, update to electronic ignition system, new pump, new
engine, transmission and differential mounts, new front and rear
shock absorbers, transmission service, Brake system serviced
throughout, Complete air conditioning service, New tires,
Alignment, New carpeting and floor mats, Complete photo documented
bare metal repaint and finally a full detailing and ceramic
coasting.
Originally, E9 cars were equipped with either a 4-speed manual
transmission or 3-speed automatic. This 2800CS was recently
converted from a 3-speed automatic transmission to a 5-speed manual
and has been a wonderful update to what the factory would have used
given the opportunity.
An exceptional 2800CS in every way, it is offered for far less than
the cost to create and restore.
