Vehicle Description
2010 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer was born October 19, 1899, on Orcas Island in Puget
Sound. He developed a deep love for the outdoors at an early age.
He turned his vacation into a vocation in 1920, opening a sporting
goods store called Eddie Bauer's Sport Shop. Initially specializing
in tennis rackets, he soon expanded his line of merchandise to
include his own hand-made golf clubs and fishing tackle. Later, he
developed and patented a regulation badminton shuttlecock. The
Bauer Shuttlecock popularized the game of badminton in the United
States and remains the standard for the sport today. Early on, he
offered customers an unconditional, lifetime guarantee: Any product
that failed to perform as required would be returned, no questions
asked. In 1923, Bauer was on a winter fishing trip in Washington
when he developed hypothermia. "I was climbing a very steep hill
when I started to get sleepy," he recalled in a 1981 interview. "I
reached to touch my back and it was ice. I realized I was freezing
to death". He made it back to Seattle, where he began trying to
develop alternatives to the heavy wool outer garments that he and
most other sportsmen used at the time.
Although the fourth-generation Explorer looked like a warmed-over
version of the previous model, it featured lots of new content
under the skin, including a new stiffer frame with
through-the-frame-rail crossmembers and a revised front suspension.
Although the 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 and five-speed auto carried over,
the available 4.6-liter V-8 gained a new three-valve head good for
292 hp and a six-speed automatic. Inside, the interior was
noticeably improved, and Roll Stability Control, canopy airbags,
and other adaptive safety devices improved safety. Pack your
camping gear, grab some extra propane, maybe a better sleeping bag,
your fishing gear and the raft the don't forget the groover, we are
going to get a little mud on the tires. This consignment, and Eddie
Bauer version of the Ford Explorer is a 2 owner, well documented on
the maintenance record front thanks to an extended Ford warranty,
mostly garage kept, fully functional, babied 4-wheeler with plenty
of potential and life left to go explore the wilds of the
USofA.
Exterior
With the rugged aero look to this urban 4-wheeler all is looking
good on the exterior. Bathed in Black Pearl Slate Metallic and
peppered with black accenting around the glass wheel surrounds it
has a rugged look and high stance. Adding an air of class, we note
sandstone flares around the wheel houses and encircling the lowers,
including the vertical faces of the bumpers. With aerodynamic flush
mount headlights with integral turn signals flanking a traditional
blue oval badged chrome trimmed grille things are looking rugged,
but not so much that you can't take this out to the country club
after picking up the kids from soccer practice. Tinted glass and
large 18-inch chrome wheels with 235/65R18's on all 4 corners
you'll have the chops to take on ruts, steep muddy hills or just
about any adventure you can conjure up. It will perform just as
nicely on a trip to the inlaws for a family gathering as well. 4
doors allow access for all of your passengers and cargo and on the
back is a wide swing-up tailgate rear door that gives you plenty of
space to load all your gear. Very nice paint is seen on the body
thanks to the twice a year wheels off detailing, however we note a
few dents in the passengers rear door, a small crack in the front
bumper and a small rust spot at the underside of the passenger's
front door. Viola!
Interior
A swing of the doors and the hits just keep on coming! Perfectly
molded textured black plastic forms to the contours of the various
armrests, speaker housings and some lower stowage bins. A smooth
camel tan insert is on as well and just for some accent we note
wood applique inserts housing for the power windows and locks and
we cannot forget the chrome door handle release. Slipping inside
and peering upfront the dash sports a black fronting which was
carefully molded to the instrument cluster, A/C venting and other
controls. In the dash center is more applique around the
AM/FM/CD/Navi/Sync infotainment system along with the digital
climate control and a slew of pushbuttons for the heated seats,4x4
functions and stability control. All this is topped by a perfect
black padded dash top and passenger glove box. Fronting this
well-appointed dash is a leather trimmed black steering wheel with
several push button controls for the stereo and cruise control.
Turning to the seats, we note black leather buckets with separate
headrests and camel tan some tuck and roll inserts. Black piping
finishes off the seats which are power controlled for both driver
and passenger. For the rear seat we see a long bench stretching
from door to door and matching the front buckets in both color and
design. Moving further back we see room for 2 more with a pair of
foldable buckets seats. These 2nd and 3rd rows can be folded to
expand your hauling area. A black console races between the seats
and contains a padded top armrest/glove box, cup holders and the
ergonomic shifter handle. Black carpeting floods the floors and
above is a camel tan fuzzy broadcloth headliner framing the power
moonroof. Squeezably soft and luxurious!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is an all clean and well documented maintenance
4.6liter 3 valve V8. This healthy 8-cylinder is fed by EFI and has
a 6-speed automatic on the back with a 3.55 geared axles. Looking
good under the hood!
Undercarriage
All solid with only minor surface rust showing on the untreated
components such as the axles, suspension parts, and body hangers.
Independent Macpherson suspension is on the front and for the rear
we see an independent suspension with coil springs. Power disc
brakes are on all 4 corners and OEM single exhaust is noted.
Drive-Ability
A quick startup and it was off to the mountains of Morgantown,
(well at least our test track), where it performed flawlessly. All
functions were working just swimmingly, including an off track
excursion to test the awd and 4x4 modes which also worked like a
charm. Nice comfortable cruise too, so you can be assured of a good
ride even if it is on a paved surface.
A 2 owner truck, nicely maintained, and babied, (I don't think it
was ever on a trail), euro aero design that remains timeless for
one of the best selling SUV's of all time. Load up your gear, turn
on the seats, and explore the wilds of your neighborhood...even if
they aren't off road. Its time for you to Explore(er)!
