Searching for a sharp-looking classic droptop with some serious
collectability value? Check out this 1996 Chevrolet Corvette
Collector's Edition convertible. There were only 1381 of its kind
made in the first place and many of those have fallen by the
wayside over the years. This rarely-seen take on its iconic model
also played a significant part in the Corvette's evolution - it was
the very last Corvette variant offered to the public before its
fourth generation was phased out entirely. Lightly driven over the
years, this is a car that you can take home and enjoy right away,
or, with just a little time and effort, it can be brought to
stellar aesthetic form.
This Corvette still wears the same Sebring Silver exterior it left
the assembly line with and, while you can see some subtle signs of
its years of service, this is beyond question a car that makes a
strong impression in its current state. Fourth-generation Corvettes
have a sleeker, decidedly more modern appearance than their
predecessors and benefit from a vastly improved production process
that made their exteriors more resistant to road-bound hazards. As
a result, you won't see any major dents on this '96 - and its
assembly of body panels all line up nicely. Its folding headlights,
a definitive styling cue on Corvettes from this era, rise up on cue
to illuminate the road ahead. Should the skies darken while you're
out on the road, the black cloth convertible top is in great shape
- it seals tightly and features a clear glass rear window that
offers far better visibility than its plastic counterparts.
The accompanying Light Gray interior makes for a compelling driving
environment and features the driver-centric design that Corvettes
came to be known for over the years. The surfaces of the leather
bucket seats show only minor wear -they've retained their original
form well and offer plenty of support for spirited driving - and
the door panels to each side are in downright strong condition for
a car of this age. The comfort and convenience options you'd want
in a frequent driver are present and accounted for, including
cruise control, power windows, door locks and mirrors, a tilt
wheel, and a defogger for the convertible top's rear window. The
air conditioning system is completely intact and the motor
functions as intended, so it's likely that a simple freon charge
will be all that's needed to restore this amenity, as well.
The featured 5.7-liter fuel-injected LT1 V8 EFI was good for 300
horsepower upon leaving the factory, and with only 53,000 miles
under this Corvette's belt, it's well-positioned for plenty more
miles of future driving fun. The engine sits in a tidy, organized
compartment - with its red intake and the red lettering on its
valve covers providing a nice contrast to the black components that
surround them - and teams with a 6-speed manual transmission that
provides smooth, precise shifts. Again, this is a car you can take
out and enjoy right away and when you do, you'll notice just how
strong the throttle response is and how straight the car tracks
when you take your hands off the steering wheel. Power disc brakes
at all four corners bring this Chevy's set of 17" factory wheels to
dependable, fade-resistant stops.
With its special edition scarcity and road-ready condition combined
with undeniable curb appeal, this 1996 Chevrolet Corvette
Collector's Edition convertible would be a great addition to any
enthusiast's garage. Call today!
