Details
This 1968 Ford Mustang shows 87,958 miles on the five-digit odometer, but the total mileage is unknown. The car is powered by a rebuilt 289ci 2v V8 backed by a three-speed C4 automatic transmission and sending power to the rear wheels. The car was resprayed in the factory color of Candy Apple Red in 1993, and the top and front seats were re-trimmed with new black vinyl upholstery in 2011. This Mustang is equipped with an eight-inch rear end packed with 2.79 gears, power steering, an optional center console, hubcaps, and the original Philco radio. The current owner purchased the car in 1993, and it is currently located in Portland, Oregon.
This sixties Pony car is documented thoroughly in the third-party inspection and photos. The red exterior is still vibrant, but the photos do reveal flaws. In addition to the chips and minor scratches on the exterior, the left rear quarter of the vehicle was damaged and repaired; however, the paint is cracking in the location of the repair. Other flaws of note are a broken antenna, a patina-ed engine compartment, and a lower front valance that shows its age. The interior shows well but does have some wear on the lower inside of the door panels. The current long-term owner has serviced the car well, such as rebuilding the engine in 1993 and adding a new transmission in 1996. A service history is outlined below. Mechanically, the car is in good condition, and a video of the engine running smoothly and the results of the road test can be seen in the inspection report. Included in the sale are two sets of keys and the current owner’s service records.
This Mustang is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Portland, Oregon.
About the model
The Hardtop body style was one of three available for the Base 1967-1968 First Generation Ford Mustang. Alongside the Fastback and Convertible body styles, the Hardtop was available with a variety of engines: the "T-code" 200 cubic inch (3.3L) 120hp inline six, the "C-code" 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 200hp V8, the "A-code" 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 225hp V8, the "K-code" 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 'HiPo' 271hp V8, the "F-code" 302 cubic inch (4.9L) 210hp V8, and the "J-code" 302 cubic inch (4.9L) 230hp V8. The top engine offering was Ford's new "S-code" 390 cubic inch (6.4L) 'FE' big block V8 engine, which had an output of 320hp. Notably, the "A-code" and the "K-code" 289 V8s were only offered for the 1967 model year, while the "F-code" and "J-code" 302 V8s were only available for 1968. These engines were available with three transmissions: a 3-speed manual, a 4-speed manual, or a 3-speed automatic, all of which sent drive to the rear wheels. The Base Model 1967-1968 Ford Mustang Hardtop was replaced when Ford introduced the 1969-1970 First Generation Ford Mustang.
