Vehicle Description
1985 Chevrolet C30 Dually Pickup
While relatively straight-lined and boxy in appearance, (leading to
their "Square-body" nickname from the public), the Rounded Line
trucks were the first generation of the C/K to be designed with the
use of computers and wind tunnels, optimizing the exterior shape
for lower drag and improved fuel economy. The chassis was an
all-new design, (with all trucks receiving a leaf-spring rear
suspension); K-Series trucks moved to all-wheel drive with
shift-on-the-fly 4x4 being introduced for 1981.
For consignment, a "square body" GM labeled "rounded design" pickup
truck with a C designation. This means it's a 2 wheel drive, and
our model shown here was born in St. Louis, Missouri and has been
treated to a customization/restoration. It has dual rear wheels and
a powerful 350ci V8. Classic Trucks are hot right now and we see a
trend for owners to use them as a promotional piece for their
businesses. A little promotion won't hurt will it? Also it has the
ability to get a little mud on the tires while hauling the
goods.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Square and rectangle design abound right upfront with the
horizontal egg crate grille flanked by stacked headlights and turn
signals in square and rectangle form. A big bumper protects the
front and a nice bowtie badge sits in the center and just above is
the custom twin scooped fiberglass hood. All straight steel with
well minded gaps is bathed in respray of white on the sides
sandwiched between medium metallic blue for the uppers and lowers
and is showing very well. Two doors, a shiny large mirror hanging
from either side and all correct badging. Window trimmings are
blackened and lightly smoked glass makes up the factory sliding
rear window. The bed has a liner which shows in good condition
having limited usage and this spray liner also works its way up the
added roll bar complete with LED light bars on top to supplement
the smoked roof clearance lights. Speaking of the bed, on the
outsides are factory flares for the dual rear wheels, giving this
hauler a big rig look. On the back is a solid gate and shiny bumper
which has the aftermarket clear tail lights floating off of each
side of the box. Polished 16-inch wheels are on all 4 corners, and
wrapped with LT265/75R16 all weathers sporting deep tread.
Interior
All original for the door panels and their trimming, showing chrome
toggles for the power windows and lock, and all bathed in black
molded vinyl and carpet with just a hint of brushed stainless and
chrome for the dress up, all which shows nicely and this is just
the door panels. The black and blue vinyl bench has black tuck and
roll inserts and smooth blue bolsters with black lower bolsters and
appears as nearly new with a snappy yellow bowtie stitched into the
center. The standard dash is shown with its textured black molded
panel for the added white faced gauges with digital odometer on
this particular dash. An aftermarket 3 spoke wood rimmed steering
wheel sits atop a tilt column and fronts this dash which has a
AM/FM/Cassette radio just below the slides for the heater and AC.
Dash central holds the ashtray within the lower blue steel framing
and up top is a black padded topper that remains crack free. Black
texture finish paint floods the floors and above is a felted black
headliner that remains nice and tight.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in an unrestored original engine bay it shows some
slight age wear, but is still buttoned up. It has an orange painted
350ci V8 with a single Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor feeding it. On
the back is the TH350 3-speed transmission that is automatic. This
pushes power rearward to a Dana 60 rear...fab!
Undercarriage
Like the engine bay, original with some surface rust on the
horizontal struts which support the floorboards and on the
suspension, road dirt, and some chip off undercoated pointing
abound. Headers feed spent fossils rearward and through a dual
Turbo muffler equipped exhaust and we note the absence of the
catalytic converter. Leaf springs are on the rear for the heavy
duty ride and work with an independent coil spring front suspension
and power disc braking is on front, and power drums for the
rear.
Drive-Ability
As expected this truck came right to life and was hitting on all 8
cylinders right out of the gate. We were off and it drove
beautifully with only the AC blowing warm and the reverse lights
not illuminating being the frowns.
A great example from 1985, nicely painted steel for the body, fully
loaded, a clean custom interior, and the reliable engine and
transmission. A workhorse and show stopper here in our Hallowed
Halls...Like A Rock!
