1987 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas
This is now a three owner car, with the first two owners being one family, Mom buying her brand new from Jaguar of Darien (CT) in 1987 and passing the cat over to her son in 2001. He drove it sparingly and by 2008 or so, the car was parked in the garage, with only about 32,000 miles on her.
The car was put up on jack stands and there she sat for the last 15 years.
She was purchased less than a year ago by a Jaguar enthusiast, who, now retired, likes to help sleeping cats get back on their feet.
This cat, although a little dirty, had a beautiful interior (Biscuit - AEE), absolutely no rust (she still has her original black paint and undercoat in place) and despite a couple of errant kids bikes in the garage, the metallic Bourdeau red (code CEK) came back to a magnificent luster. Yes, unfortunately, there are a couple of small scratches in the gorgeous paint, and two small dings, as shown in the detailed photos, a full on paint correction would probably make them nearly invisible.
To wake this big cat up, the current owner went through her nose to tail and drained and flushed the fuel tanks, replaced the fuel filter and sending unit, replaced all 6 injectors, replaced the air filter, flushed and changed out coolant, brake fluid, differential fluid, transmission fluid and of course changed the oil and filter. The saggy headliner was reupholstered, the front calipers, pads and hoses were replaced, as were the rear pads and was finished off by replacing the catalytic converter and Y pipe.
With her in mechanically tip-top shape, he set about to cleaning and polishing her inside and out, under the hood, etc. so she is the proud master of the jungle when she prowls the back roads.
The Vanden Plas edition of the XJ6 means upgraded rear buckets seats, 2 way power driver seat, additional lighting, and hand painted accent trim on the burlwood. The Bosch fuel injection helps the 4.2 Liter inline 6 put out roughly 180 HP and 220 lb ft of torque through the 3 speed B-W auto trans. and as a Jaguar, all the power goodies are standard - Power steering, power, 4 wheel disc brakes, cruise control, AC (blows cool, not ice cold), trip computer, intermittent wipers, power mirrors, power windows, power sun roof, power locks, hand sewn Connelly leather, pop up vanity mirror in the glove box and plush lambs wool floor mats for the passengers.
She starts right up and settles quickly into a smooth idle, that wakes up when you get into the gas. Although not considered a sport saloon, the independent suspension f&r, plus sway bars and Pirelli 4000 tires give this luxury saloon the grace and pace of a jungle cat when hitting the country roads and has no problems hitting 80+ mph and keeping up with "modern" highway traffic.
Low number of owners, very low miles (currently just 33,500 on the odometer), stunning good looks, No Rust and an wonderful driving car.
Hard to ask for more.
These beautiful cars are currently way under valued when compared to other Jaguars and this car can lead the new owner into the British auto enthusiast world with a low admission.
$14,900 will bring this great cat home with you.
