The 'Oldsmobile 88' was the top-of-the-line Oldsmobile in 1950.
This restored Olds 88 2-door sedan is a rare example of a classic
early factory 'muscle car'. The solid exterior is finished in
single-stage black that is in overall good condition and rust is
not an issue. All chrome is good and accents include a classic '50s
chrome grill, stunning 'Rocket 88' hood ornament and steel wheels
w/center caps that mount BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The restored
cloth interior shows very well. Upholstery, door cards, headliner
and carpeting are all in good condition. The dash holds the
original AM radio (needs TLC) and there is a full set of working
gauges, center timepiece and beautiful wheel. The Olds is powered
by the infamous 303ci OHV 'Rocket 88' V8. These engines were
equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor in 1950, but this engine
appears to have been retro-fitted with a '52 Olds 4V intake and
rare Uremco 4-barrel carb. The engine compartment is detailed and
chrome accents have been added. Electrics have been converted to a
12V alternator-based system w/new battery/regulator and the dual
exhaust system is also new. If we understand correctly, the '50
Oldsmobile was factory equipped with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic
transmission that is designed to start out in 2nd gear when 'Drive'
was selected and progress to 3rd/4th. If you selected 'Lo' and
stomped on it, 1st gear would engage and you would take flight.
(Information on this version of the Hydra-Matic is somewhat
limited, available only on '50-'52 models.) The clean, solid
chassis is equipped with manual steering and 4-wheel drum brakes.
Factory suspension design is 'Knee-Action' front/rear coil springs
and sway bars. This Olds 88 is ready for a new owner who will
appreciate a classic 'muscle' sedan. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
