Vehicle Description
1969 Ford F100 Pickup
The phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is often used to
explain a certain simple, middle-America wisdom that folks in the
Heartland of this country are said to embrace. What is not often
heard is the second half of that adage that admonishes, "And if it
is broke, you have to fix it better than it was.". That part of the
philosophy is the one those gentle country folks don't talk too
much about.
For consignment, a 1969 F100 pickup with nice straight rust free
steel, two tone shiny chrome and a 390ci V8. All as a result of a
frame off restoration around 2016. Added AC for the broadcloth
enveloped cab, all original dash, and clean Rhino lined bed, this
is a looker and has the potential to haul all your goods. Also a
vintage wheel and tire package as well as a color matching dealer
ordered cooler and many parts go with this truck.
Exterior
Retired from hauling duty and fully restored this truck has no
rust, straight panels and a few areas of paint scratches and
surface markings, but it is from wholesome use. It is bathed in
Boxwood Green for the uppers, hood and bed edges, and Wimbledon
White for the lowers and roofline. Nice trim runs the length of the
truck and it's on the midline as well the rockers and wheel well
surrounds. A well preserved front grille and bumper are leading the
way. Bringing up the rear is another nice bumper and a Ford logo
embossed in the all green tailgate. Chrome tipped 2.5-inch exhaust
tips peek out from below. The bed remains nice with its Rhino lined
flooring and nicely chromed exterior mirrors hanging from either
door. 15-inch chromed rimmed and center dog dish wheels are wrapped
by black wall tires in 255/60R15 format.
Interior
Climbing past nice door panels with a black central panel and
horizontal wood applique running through and a beautiful thin
chrome surrounding the black we enter the fully restored interior.
We climb into the vertical tuck and roll broadcloth insert bench
seat in dark gray with smooth black vinyl bolsters. This bench is
very nice with no tears or even wear showing. A look to the dash,
and we note a factory design gauge panel with a horizontal speedo
in the center of a chrome trimmed elongated oval that is peppered
with wood applique trim. The remainder of the dash front is also in
steel painted in the Boxwood Green. A nAM/FM radio is in and just
below some Vintage AC is hanging from the bottom. The dash top is
crack free padded black vinyl. Black carpet in good condition
floods the floor. Above a new black plastic panel makes up the
headliner.
Drivetrain
A 390ci V8 resides in the cavernous engine bay which powers a C6
3-speed automatic transmission with the help of a 4-barrel
carburetor. A Ford 9-inch 3.25 geared rear puts power to the
blacktop.
Undercarriage
This truck shows very well underneath with nary a hint of surface
rust on the frame and suspension components. Dual exhaust with
glasspack style mufflers expel burnt fossils to the rear of the
truck. Power front disc brakes work in conjunction with rear power
drums for the stopping of this big rig. A twin I-beam and coil
spring front suspension gives a nice ride and for the rear we see
traditional leaf springs. Nice and tidy would describe the
undercarriage best.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooth idler, a tickle of the gas pedal and
we're off! This truck runs very nicely, shifts smoothly, corners
nicely, and has a fairly smooth ride. The interior is comfortable,
which is to be expected because Ford had the theory that their
trucks were workers on the outside, but car-like interiors would
rule. All functions save for the windshield washers, reverse lights
and AXc were working during our drive and the note of the big V8
delivers the goods. A small oil leak is noted at the back of the
oil pan, but it's minor.
An eye-catching example of the F-100, very good condition, and it's
a truck that can show as well as work. No trailer queen here, just
a worker in classic form. Well running, and snazzy looking, and all
rust free. Right here at Classic Auto Mall y'-all! Start the
bidding, and grab a beer from that color matching cooler.
