Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet Corvette Collectors Edition Coupe
After decades of getting its ass kicked by Italian and German
imports, the Corvette had officially returned to the point where it
could at least offer them a little competition with the C4
generation. With this return to dominance comes the return of a
more traditional crossed flag emblem. The checkered flag remained
on the left, a Chevrolet bowtie on the right, with a circular
border.
Sebring Silver to a Corvette aficionado, is a color that will be
forever linked with such classics as the first Sting Ray racer of
1959 and the legendary 1963 split-window coupe. Now Sebring Silver
is back, adding a special brilliance to this 1996 Corvette
Collector Edition. A coupe version that sports details that include
distinctive chrome emblems outside, and sport seats with "Collector
Edition" embroidery inside. These leather seating surfaces are
offered in gray on this car. For the final season for the
fourth-generation Corvette, Sebring Silver rings in the
celebration. A title verified 70,016 miles and documented
maintenance history for this 1 of 5,412 built with the Z15
Collectors Edition RPO, an LT-1 engine, and a 4-speed automatic
transmission. All this wrapped up with a clean CarFax and tinted
targa top, all waiting for you in our Hallowed Halls.
Exterior
All clean, sparkling and ready to celebrate, Sebring Silver drapes
this last year Gen 4 car. The Sebring Silver paint is in good
condition, and the badging shows correctly. Spears return to the
front air intake and are reminiscent of earlier Corvettes from the
1950's, but in a more contemporary style. With its rubberized crash
bumpers, this car is virtually devoid of any chrome, and just
badging shines brightly against the silver. A removable targa roof
panel in smoked transparent "glass" comes with this car and can be
removed easily depending on your mood. The large greenhouse rear
glass leads down to the easily recognized dual dual ovoid tail
lights and polished rectangular exhaust tips below. Satin finished
17-inch 5 spoke wheels adorn all 4 corners and are wrapped in
correct size staggered width Continental blackwall radials from the
28th week of 2022 and 43rd week of 2021 respectively with an
alignment performed in November of 2022.
Interior
Gray stitched leather dominates the snazzy interior that features a
semicircular instrument panel that is a digital/analog combination
and shows in an orange background with black LCD digits and lines.
Noted is the actual mileage of 70,016 miles. Controls for power
seat adjustments and the automatic shifter are within the console.
Black and gray makes up the matching door panels, and within the
armrest are power windows, and power locks. Other conveniences are
an AM/FM/Cassette/CD stereo, climate controls, and a large center
screen digital display which is essentially a cluster of warning,
(idiot), lights. Nicely preserved gray leather embroidered buckets
with just the right amount of supple wear round out the sporty
passenger compartment.
Drivetrain
A 5.7 liter V8 300hp LT-1 engine which is electronically fuel
injected, is connected to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission
all of which sends power back to a 2.59 geared rear axle. Our
consignor notes that the engine was treated to a fuel injection
service, a throttle body cleaning and service, and all fluids for
the drivetrain were changed within the last 1,000 miles. All stock,
just the way we like it.
Undercarriage
Very clean, rust free environment, showing no signs of any stresses
or nagging problems. This car was created as one of the best
handling and riding C4 Corvette built. Independent suspension with
transverse mounted mono leaf springs give the ride while 4-wheel
disc brakes round out the undercarriage. Our consignor notes that
the front and rear brakes were recently replaced as well as the
rotors.
Drive-Ability
This Corvette started easily, and effortlessly went through its
paces on the test track. Good acceleration, nice rail like
cornering, and a smooth cruising at speed. All functions were
working just fab, and the seat controls enabled any driver to get
it just right baby bear.
The 1996 Collectors Edition has something special and out of the
ordinary offerings of 1996. With its silver exterior, special
badging, powerful engine, and embroidered seating, it harkens back
to another era when the car was in its infancy, but it's definitely
not your grandfather's Corvette anymore!
