Details
This highly documented 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 has just 38,008 original miles and is powered by its matching numbers 455ci Stage 1 V8. Its 360hp and 510 lb.ft. of torque are pushed to the rear wheels through a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission. One of 664 examples produced with a 4-speed transmission, this GS Stage 1 wears Diplomat Blue paint, a black vinyl top and black vinyl interior. Compared to the base 455, the Stage 1 was equipped with larger valves, stiffer springs, and a series of engine modifications that increased horsepower by 10 officially. The true effect of these power modifications was believed to be much greater. Stage 1 badging, chrome valve covers, and air cleaner decal clearly show that this is not a base GS 455. Purchased by the current owner in Charlotte, this GS Stage 1 is located in Minnesota.
This well documented example includes Sloan Museum documentation, Gran Sport Club of America judging sheets, and documentation of the cars participation in the 2009 New England Concours dElegance. Thorough third-party inspection and photos show a clean, well-cared-for original muscle car. The paint is clean and shows little wear that would be expected over time. Similarly, the interior has clean black carpet and black vinyl seats that look new and are a testament to the low mileage. An undercoating has been applied to the underside. A road test and inspection of mechanical functions confirmed that all is in working order and in good condition. The sale includes a host of documentation, noted below, a removable trailer hitch, and one set of keys.
This Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Grey Eagle, MN.
About the model
The Buick Gran Sport was introduced for the 1967 model year. The Gran Sport name had been a performance variant of the Buick Skylark, but in 1967, it was spun off into its own model. The Gran Sport, or GS, was a series of coupes and convertibles fitted with performance-tuned V8 engines. The GS featured notable variants such as the GS Stage 1, Stage 2, GSX, and GSX Stage 1. The Buick Gran Sport was in production until 1972. A Gran Sport variant of the Buick Century was produced from 1973 to 1975.
