Vehicle Description
2000 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe
History is full of rivalries between two strong competitors like
Coke vs. Pepsi, AT&T vs. MCI, Nike vs. Reebok, and Bill Gates
vs. Steve Jobs. In almost every case, the competition and the drive
to outdo a rival resulted in the production of superior products by
both companies and benefited the consumer with high quality and
lower prices. The rivalry between the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford
Mustang has run for more than a half a century with similar
results. Both vehicles, rear-wheel-drive, 2 plus 2 American sports
coupes began their battle for customers starting in the 1960s, and
each has had its ups and downs. Except for a Camaro hiatus from
2003 to 2010, each year has brought a new model with features
designed to surpass the competition. The seemingly inexhaustible
attraction of inexpensive V8 horsepower, sports car road handling,
and stylish good looks has permitted the classic American pony car
civil war to continue well into the 21st century.
For consignment, a car celebrating the Camaro SS and with SLP
engineering add ons thrown in for extra power and looks, and a LOT
of it! Our consignor states this is a wonderful performer and has
spent most of its 1-owner life doing what Camaros do best...being
driven and enjoyed. Ordered by someone who knew exactly how to
order a high-performance car...manual windows, manual locks, no
T-tops or fancy leather....just pure and unadulterated LS1 power
under the hood mated to a 4-speed automatic. Accumulating only
58,719 title verified actual miles in its life and still having its
window sticker this car is ready for you to show or safely tuck
away and let the value appreciate.
Exterior
This car screams SS with it all bathed in sinister Black, as if
there is any other color. The front grille is slightly different
from the standard issue Z28 and sports aggressive venting within
the satin black insert. Just above is the SS scooped hood that
races rearward to Chevrolet's well known rakish styling on the
front glass, and this car is no exception with that windshield
leaning way back in this design. On top is more black steel, thus
making the car lighter and faster than a comparably equipped T-roof
version. On the sides straight steel with well minded gaps creates
the front and rear quarters badged with red SS badges on the front
quarters. Theaerodynamic styling continues on the rear deck where
there is a wide spoiler that is very low profile. 18-inch polished
chrome wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in 275/35ZR18
high performance blackwall rubber. Dual exhaust peeks out from
under the body matching neoprene bumper. All paint is at the deep
end of the pool and looks nearly perfect throughout.
Interior
A swing of the sexy doors and we get loads of black molded smooth
vinyl, some faux rag-paint finish cloth inserts, integrated door
pulls with a matching charcoal gray actuator and manual cranks for
the windows. Inside, 2 tone Charcoal Black cloth high back buckets
showing slight wear that comes from age and very little use have
more of thefaux rag-paint pattern to the lighter gray inserts and
on the bolsters we see nothing but clean supple darker gray
broadcloth. A center console undulates by these buckets and houses
the shifter for the automatic transmission. Shoehorned in back are
two more molded in two tone buckets with not a lot of legroom but
they are there. The center of the dash rises to the occasion with a
premium sound system including the Monsoon 500 watt AM/FM/CD and
climate controls. A beautifully and gracefully arched dash top in
front of the driver has all the essential gauges and warnings
should something go awry during your performance drive. Charcoal
gray carpeting floods the floors and is protected by color matching
carpeted mats.
Drivetrain
The factory 346ci, 5.7 liter LS1 V8 sits between the fenders and is
looking as good as the day it was installed. It is fed by EFI and
has a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission on the back. The rear
axle is a 10-bolt 3.23 posi-traction setup. All stock and just the
way the folks at the Quebec plant intended.
Undercarriage
Beautifully preserved with factory overspray still seen on floor
pans and fuel tank. The factory dual to single to dual exhaust is
on and looking just fab with a muffler delete in place so you can
let it rack off and wake up the neighbors. Handling is courtesy
front independent Macpherson struts and rear is torque arm with
coil springs. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and off to the test track. Here it performed well
in all facets with endless acceleration, bias free braking and
wonderful handling. All functions were performing as they should on
this SS Camaro, and we kept our drive short so as to not rack up
too many miles on this example.
A dual advantage to this particular car with its SS bling and the
performance looks of the SLP hood, we have a car that not only
looks high performance but also fits the bill when you push the
accelerator floorward. Ordered by someone who knew how to keep a
car as light as possible and faithfully cared for over the
years...Gentlemen, start your engines!!!
