For Sale: 1986 Ford F150 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1986 Ford F150 XLT Pickup

The ninth generation of the Ford F-Series is a lineup of trucks that were produced by Ford from the 1992 to 1998 model years. The final generation of the F-Series to include a complete range of trucks from a half-ton F-150 pickup truck to a medium-duty F-800 commercial truck, this is the third generation of the F-Series body and chassis introduced for 1980. To improve the aerodynamics of the exterior, the front fascia underwent a substantial revision to its design. The flareside bed design made its return, following a substantial change in its design.

From the sunny south, Atlanta, Georgia to be exact, where it rarely snows and even if it does, the southern Depts. of Trans. doesn't have a clue what salt is! We are offering for consignment, a Ford F150 XLT pickup right smack dab in the middle of the 80's, 1986 to be exact. This truck holds the classic look on the back for the cab, a desirable short box bed, and large FORD badge on the tailgate. A 2 owner truck, perfectly weathered and patined, but without all the rust that we in the north have become accustomedto. With a Ford remanufactured engine, a rebuilt at 49,220 on the odometer transmission, a lowering kit, and those snappy wheels you'll be making your own one truck parade wherever you decide to go.

Exterior
Starting at the very beginning...a very good place to start...we see mid 80's square and rectangle design for the headlights with chrome bezel surrounds that melt into a square and rectangular grille with more chrome ribs and a black egg crate background. Below is the clean and shiny bumper that wraps slightly around to the diorite quarters. All metal is solid, minding its gaps, and bathed in the factory 2 tone of dark and light gray. Patina abounds for the finish with fading, dullness, chip offs and some areas of very light surface rust, but this is all part of the charm. On either side a black trim piece with surrounding thin chrome strips that runs from wheel well to wheel well where all polished stainless takes over frames the bottom of the lighter gray and above this is highlighted by twin red pinstriping. After this, the bed starts behind a full rear glass. The slab sided exterior mounted frames the black vinyl tonneau topper for the bed which hides the used but intact bed floor and sides. On back are the rectangular tail lights hanging off the sides of the bed and these flank the FORD badged tailgate. 18-inch Ridler wheels in very attractive cleanliness are on all 4 corners and wrapped by 245/55R18's all around from the 9th week of 2019.

Interior
A swing of the doors and its nearly "All Aboard!" and time to climb up and in. Here the door panels make use of red molded plastic, some velour broadcloth for mid section panels and red carpeted lowers. Also here resides the power window and lock toggles as well as a small map pocket. Inside is a nicely preserved but faded red overstuffed bench all wrapped in velour. This chairfloats in a sea of more red carpeting. The dash is pure Ford with a red dash top which undulates up and down with sharp horizontal and vertical angles, but does present with some cracking on the top. Within these angles are some burl applique panels which house the gauges and a lineup of warning lights. The dash center follows suit with more burl square and rectangle black panels, and some more red molded plastic for the remainder. A digital clock, AM/FM/CD stereo and climate sliders are installed into the center of the dash. Watching mindfully from above is a clean and tight red broadcloth headliner.

Drivetrain
Our consignor states that the 5.0 liter V8 under the hood is a Ford remanufactured engine and has the tag on the black to back that up. Overall it looks real sweet with a gaggle of supple hoses and ducts. A rebuilt AOD 4-speed automatic transmission is on back, and a Ford 8.8" axle turns the tires. We note a remanufactured power steering box has been installed as well as a new starter and remanufactured alternator.

Undercarriage
Slight surface rust is noted on the frame and all mechanicals underneath show some road dirt but things remain structurally solid. Also, the rockers are solid and surface rust is a bit heavier up front on the suspension and framing. Radius arm and coil springs for the front, and leaf springs for the back with power disc brakes upfront, and power drums for the rear make up the suspension and brakes. Our consignor notes that a DJM 3/4 lowering kit has been installed with a 3" drop in the front and a 4" drop for the rear creating the perfect rake. The exhaust is fairly rust free with the single Flowmaster muffler on leading to the side pipedexhaust in front of the passengers rear tire.

Drive-Ability
This truck starts instantly with the quick turn of the key and idles smoothly. After the warmup, it was off for a street cruise where it performed very nicely, all functions working normally including ice cold AC. Nothing wrong on the driving end of this classic.

Nice aged and patinaed factory paint scheme, a classic looking bed and snappy wheels and an 80's front end with a good interior which can handle the ruggedness of the job site or the niceties of a show and shine. The V8 is snappy and looks good to boot. I guess now is the time to use my pickup line: Built Ford Tough!
