Details
This 1972 De Tomaso Pantera has just 34,113 miles and is fitted with a 351ci V8 (Ford) engine in the mid-rear section of the car, and is backed by a five-speed manual transaxle that sends power to the rear wheels. The car is finished in black with a matching leather interior. Although not a GT5, this example was fitted with a GT5-style spoiler and side scoops, G-Force racing harnesses, custom shifter, aftermarket wheels, and Wilwood brakes. Standard features include analog gauges, anti-sway bars, fully independent suspension, coil-over shocks, T-top removable panel roof, and disc brakes. The car is located in New Jersey.
The black-painted body on this Pantera shows clean in the third-party photos provided. The third-party inspection does note evidence of a repaint on at least the left front quarter panel. Scratches in various places are also noted but consistent with the age of the vehicle. The report also shows a chip on the hood that has been treated with touch-up paint and notes that the air conditioning is not fully functioning. The carpet, seats, and headliner remain in good condition, with only light wear in the trunk and on the dash. The engine and transmission are said to be in good working order, but the inspection does note a noise when the steering is applied. This Pantera is a fine example of the Italian sports car with tasteful modifications and is found in good overall condition. Included in the sale are two sets of keys.
This DeTomaso Pantera is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Wall, New Jersey.
About the model
The De Tomaso Pantera entered the market in 1971. This Italian sports car is De Tomaso's most well-known model, and the one that gave the brand notoriety in the automotive industry. The striking Tom Tjaarda designed body was powered by a Ford 5.8L V8 mid-mounted engine with drive going to the rear wheels. A Pantera "L" was introduced in 1972, with small tweaks to comply with the US market, these models are very similar to the standard Pantera outside of a detuned V8 engine. The standard Pantera was slowly phased out near the end of production, but it could still be made to order, although imports to the United States ended in 1975.
